About us

Press release 23 October 2008

www.a-n.co.uk has changed
Our revitalised site offers fast routes in to an information-rich resource for all interested in the visual arts.

When launched in 1980, a-n said it would be "an open communication channel for artists". This imperative remains, with now Web 2.0 technologies extending the routes. Through user-generated content such as blogs, our many users and subscribers are self-determining, influencing and shaping our content, our knowledge of visual arts practice and what we do in the future.

Explaining the rationale, Director of Development, Louise Wirz said: "We are a decentralised distributed company mirroring artists' practices and approaches as closely as possible across all work. Our new website genuinely opens up routes for artists and their collaborators to platform their work within an environment of engaged, like-minded people".

The website development began on in September 2007, with launch of Interface, a specialist site focusing on the presentation of the visual arts with a platform for new critical writing alongside, what's on, venues and writers index and advertising. During 2008, we've added Artists talking and Jobs and opps sites, each focusing on specific communities of interest, have continued to ring the changes. During the weeks and months ahead, we'll be adding additional features and user tools to further enhance www.a-n.co.uk
