WHAT: part-time Specialist Technician 4D - Physical Computing

WHEN: 28 hours per week

PAYMENTS: £30,995 - £38,099 pa pro rata

DETAILS: to join a brand new technical team to help students develop knowledge of and agility with digital skills at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, part of the University Of The Arts London. The successful candidate will deliver specialist technical demonstrations to students working in groups and individually seeking to experiment with and realise a diverse range of digital projects. As well as supervising and advising, the postholder will help to manage day-to-day operations: lead a support team, handle budgets, select suppliers and run a safe learning environment. Their efforts will be pivotal to this new area's success. Applicants must be skilled in a range of technical areas including: Multimedia, interactive design, and screen-based output; Digital imaging and video tools, including compression, storage, archiving; Physical computing, including bespoke hardware and micro-electronics; Computer programming for art and design. In particular, experience with projects that integrate knowledge of a variety of applications, tools and processes; flexible knowledge of multiple commercial and open-source software and programming/coding standards; able to facilitate deployment off the shelf and customized hardware for art and design applications. Above all, you must able to communicate well and participate thoughtfully, online and in person, in communities of staff and students at CSM and your fields of specialism at large. The desire to experiment and develop on an ongoing basis in relation to your area is essential.
