WHO: researchers wishing to undertake PhD
WHAT: six studentships for doctoral study within art, design, media and performance faculty
WHEN: three-year, full-time studentships from October 2010
PAYMENTS: all fees covered and includes an annual maintenance grant of £13,200
DETAILS: University College Falmouth has a record of high quality research in Art, Design, Media and Performance. Emphasis is on practice-led and user-led inquiry that is collaborative in nature and multi disciplinary in scope. From 2010 research will be supported and developed within three, thematic Centres of Research and Innovation: Sustainable Design, Digital Economy and Arts, Communities and the Environment.Expressions of interest are invited in six new full-time studentships for doctoral study in any of these areas of research strength and strategic development. Four will contribute explicitly to the advancement of Cornwall's knowledge economy and will meet the objectives of the European Social Fund. The following topics are welcomed:The role and value of craft processes in the development of new participatory design methods 21st century standard ware (the cultural heritage of Leach and the creative and economic benefits of digital technologies) Investigating and developing digital locative narratives of identity, dispersal and communications in relation to Cornwall's coastal economy Prosody, reading and the sound-shape of words: voiced poetics and digital sound analysis A critical engagement through arts practice with issues of environmental change Choreography as relational practice Connected Creative Communities: British Women Artists and Surrealism (In collaboration with Tate St Ives) Reframing spectatorship and participation within contemporary theatre and performance.
