Digital content consultation
Following publication in October by the EU Commission development groups for Information Society and Media and for the Internal of the paper 'Creative Content in a European Digital Single Market: Challenges for the Future' a Public consultation has opened. The aim is to provide a wide-ranging debate on how to develop vibrant online markets for goods and services protected by intellectual property rights.
The consultation addresses the role of legal online markets and explores a variety of copyright management models that may induce a more rapid development of such markets.
The consultation document, states that the "Commission intends to continue to take a pro-active role in order to ensure a culturally diverse and rich online content market for consumers, while creating adequate possibilities for remuneration and improved conditions in the digital environment for right holders. The Commission will strive to put in place balanced and durable foundations for an innovative and competitive market place across Europe, upon which market players can construct sustainable online service offerings. Stakeholders can expect the European Digital Agenda to be inspired by these overall objectives."
The deadline for comments to be made in electronic format is 5 January 2010.
