AIR Representation update

The third meeting of the AIR Representation working group took place in Birmingham in January to discuss in detail the recommendations for AIR’s representation model.

The working group including Katriona Beales (Liverpool), Jack Hutchinson (London), Sally Lemsford (Nottingham), Claudia Pilsl (Bristol), Paul Scott (Cumbria) and Caroline Wright (Suffolk), has reviewed a range of representation models from the UK and beyond, in order to identify how they solicit and communicate their members' views to wider government and development agencies as well as at their operating principles.

Once finalised, the new structure will make maximum use of new technology to ensure active participation by the AIR membership in AIR's development and campaigns. Platforms such as Forums for raising issues and e-voting are vital to creating an inclusive association of artists. With representation on ECA (European Council of Artists) and UK national committees including Creative and Cultural Skills and Visual Arts UK, AIR's representation model must ensure that it speaks confidently on behalf of its now over 13,500 members.
