Haroon Mirza awarded £5,000 prize plus solo exhibition in Japan.

11.06.12 - The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation has announced Haroon Mirza as the winner of its 2012 prize that gives a British artist exposure to Japan's visual arts sector. Mirza will hold a solo exhibition at Scai The Bathhouse in Tokyo in the autumn and in addition receives a £5,000 participation fee plus travel and accommodation costs for a seven-day period in Japan to coincide with the opening of the exhibition.

This is the second Daiwa Foundation Art Prize, which saw over 700 artists submit work for consideration. An exhibition by the three shortlisted artists, including Tom Hammick and Jennifer E Price, is on display at Daiwa Foundation Japan House until 19 July. The inaugural winner, Marcus Coates, presented a solo exhibition at the Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo in 2009.
