Starter Studio programme provides two-year "comfort period" for new and emerging visual artists and makers. Housed at custom-built fine art and craft studio complex Persistence Works, the scheme offers subsidised workspace, tailored business course, mentoring support and access to exhibition, commission and workshop opportunities.

This new residency starting January 2011 is closely linked to new starter studio programmes at new studio sites in the Manor Oaks neighbourhood of Sheffield. This 1 year residency provides access to the equipped ceramics studio with kiln, spray booth and wheel. Also available is a resident fee, production and materials budget and support with travel and accommodation costs. Resident artists are expected to have dialogue with the emerging ceramicists on the New Starter programme. They will also be expected to engage with the wider community of the manor oaks area. Yorkshire Artspace are managing 10 new studios in a mixed use building in the Parson Cross area of Sheffield. These studios are currently in the process of being built and are due for completion in the Summer of 2011. There are no parameters placed on what is produced during this residency but rather by providing time, place and money Artspace hope that the artist will develop ideas/work that might be of interest or relevance to the people who live in Parson Cross.
