The council wishes to appoint an artist to develop and install a variety of imaginative pieces of public artwork within the town centre. The artist will be expected to work with the local community in order to develop proposals. A number of opportunities exist for the introduction of Public Artwork within the town including street furniture, entrance floorscapes, stone cut lettering in the floorscapes developed through a community literature project, a viewpoint sculpture and an architectural glass project. The Council has secured funding from the Arts Council of Wales, for a piece of artwork to sit upon a large concrete retaining wall within the town centre. The artwork will be an integral part of a wider town arts strategy, which has already seen the implementation of a number of unique and contemporary sculptures. A copy of the Arts Strategy can be provided on request. The commission is for a strong imaginative, site-specific artwork, which will act as a 'gateway feature' thus enhancing the 'corridor' from the high street up to the newly developed bus station. Caerphilly County Borough Council has secured funding from the Heads of the Valleys Artwork Programme for a piece or series of public artworks to sit within a proposed community garden in the north of the borough. The chosen artist will be required to design and implement a piece or pieces of imaginative artwork as an integral part of this regeneration project, and will also be required to work with the local community in order to develop proposals that reflect the site and the aspirations of the local community.
