Kent County Council's Arts Development Unit, on behalf of the Kent Cultural Baton Board, wishes to appoint an Artist in Residence for Samphire Hoe, Dover. The Kent Cultural Baton Artist in Residence will be hosted by Samphire Hoe in partnership with Eurotunnel and the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership. Places, journeying, permanence and transience are all themes that thread through the Baton project. The Residency programme offers artist's space and time to explore and respond to ideas of ‘place', through their own creative practice discovering what they see as the ‘hidden Kent' and unearthing or creating stories from a range of sources that speak of Kent's places, people and folklore. Kent County Council is seeking expressions of interest from artists to create and produce an original artwork that will be named the Kent Cultural Baton. In the build up to the London 2012 Games, the Baton will be hosted by individuals and organisations across Kent as part of local events, celebrations and projects. On behalf of Liberty Property Trust UK, Kent Arts Development Unit is commissioning an experienced artist to develop a sculpture for the major roundabout intersection in a newly developed residential area of the Kings Hill Development, West Malling.The commissioned work should be sensitive to its immediate environment and context. Expressing a locally connected yet distinctive vision through creative mark-making, it should contribute to ongoing place making work in progress for and with the communities in Kings Hill.
