Housing co-operative in Salford.
SALFORD, UK
Albion Towers and Windsor Village has been running as a tenant managed housing co-operative for 15 years but tenants and residents have been involved in the development of their estate for approximately 20 years. The estate and the block were very run down, had a problem with drug use and was not a very nice place to live. Now the estate is a great place to live and the block is the safest block in Salford. We want to celebrate this and promote our diverse community with an art project. We want artists that are happy to talk to our tenants and residents and find out about where we have all come from, who we are and how we can be a better community. We also have archive materials which are of local historic value which can be brought into an artist's project. We would like the project to span over a year, culminating in: Stage 1- Initial artist's expression of interest and proposed projects deadline is 7th August 2011; Stage 2 - Review of proposed projects and short listing deadline 6th September 2011; Stage 3 - Shortlisted artists initial consultation meetings with tenants and final proposals deadline 4th December 2011; Stage 4 - Final project artist in residence January -March 2012; Stage 5 - Final artwork opening/exhibition/instillation May 2012.
