LAFVA 08

13 January 2009

The London Artists’ Film and Video Awards (LAFVA) for 2008 awardees were announced in May 2008. This year nine London-based artists were selected to receive up to £20,000 to produce new film and video work. This year's awardees are: Luciano Zubillaga, Stephen Connolly, Sarah Turner, Sara Preibsch, Samuel Stevens, Shezad Dawood, Anjalika Sagar & Kodwo Eshun, Sutapa Biswas and Redmond Entwistle.

183 applications to the LAFVA scheme were received this year. The LAFVA awardees were selected by panels of external assessors with expertise in moving image practice.

Now in its eighth year, the London Artists' Film and Video Awards support established, mid-career and emerging artists living and working in the London region. The scheme is unique in the diversity of work that it represents. Supported by Film London in partnership with Arts Council England, the awards support projects ranging from multi screen gallery installations to single screen work for festivals, from feature length films to shorts of a couple of minutes; from films using hand processed celluloid to computer generated animation. Works are produced on 35mm, 16mm, Super 8, HD and DV, with awardees coming from fine art, digital media, experimental film, photography and choreography backgrounds. The range of approaches and practices represented by the scheme reflects London’s rich history as a hot bed for ground-breaking moving image practice.
