AIR member Lesley Halliwell, whose work featured on the cover of the April issue of a-n Magazine, is currently exhibiting at Chapman Gallery at The University of Salford. One major Spirograph drawing, ‘Reach’ measures six metres across and has taken three years “on and off” and used 160 biros. Her new works rely on many of the same principles of obsessive preoccupation with repetition and a futile quest for regularity. Using a variety of common tools and materials including felt-tip pens, blotting paper, Tipp-Ex and graph paper, she sets up simple systems allowing the materials and the process to take over.
