Enemies of Good Art

"there is no more somber enemy of good art than the pram in the hall". Cyril Connolly,  Enemies of Promise, 1938

"Six months ago I became a mother, while pregnant a friend quoted the above to me during a conversation on how artists continue to be productive after motherhood. Taking this as the starting point I would like to gather together a group of women to discuss how one combines the demands of being a mother with the need to maintain creative practices.

"A fitting location for our meeting is within the installation the "Nature of the Beast" at the Whitechapel Art Gallery. Artist Goshka Macuga has designed a meeting room "with a real emphasis on accommodating and encouraging meetings for discussion groups...around the central table." - Martina Mullaney

The meeting will be chaired by Jennifer Thatcher, Director of Talks at the ICA. It will be advertised as a public event and will be documented for inclusion in the Whilechapel Art Gallery archives, by way of photographs and sound recording. Babies and children of all ages welcome.
