No-one could’ve  really predicted the start they’ve had to the season and their manager has promised more of the same. ‘I’m convinced that this ain’t no goddamn fluke. My guys worked their butts off over the summer break, and alls am sayin’ is that if Athletico want to get back in the runnin’ they’re gonna have ta sing for the top spot…’ Meanwhile, Tranquilayers are relieved to have bagged their first 3 points in a number of games. Their chairman expects better from his team… ‘I’m a bit confused as to why we’ve pretty much written off any realistic chance of honours this season. It’s important for our club and community that we get ourselves in the top 3  ASAP. ‘ Universo Collunteen are reported to have made a new bid to relocate their region and move from the ground that they’ve occupied for the last 25 years. They have reportedly been in recent talks with Armitage consultants and are looking to re brand themselves for a more middle class market. This hasn’t gone down too well with their large militant working class fan base though…  ... The Athletican boss was very unhappy with a last minute penalty appeal…Olby are said to be seeking new financial investment after a 1-1 stalemate with Bayerns - a game that they dominated until the last five minutes of play…Green Tree’s boss believes that Red Star will finish in the top two for the first time since 1990 – ‘They’re so young, I can see them dominating the league the same way Delta did at the turn of the century.’ Bombaya completely dominated at home to Lunderbach, missing a hatful of opportunities before getting an injury time winner.   The Sporting League federation is currently investigating a series of financial irregularities along the coast of Pacifica. The club maintain that they have no connections with the ongoing list of negative headlines coming from the area.... Novia continue their ‘dog with a bone’ policy by strengthening their grip at the top with a 3-1 win at the intimidating Dons stadium.  Play was halted after 19 minutes due to a pitch invasion from Dons supporters in protest against the clubs rising gate fees. The youth of Red Star choked out ailing champions Olby with a convincing 1-0 triumph. Red Star are also in talks with Zindustrious in a potential loan spell for their out of favour winger. Delta and Athletico played out a predictable 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, both teams have been in early talks with Rayinado as they both compete for the Sporting league’s most lucrative sponsorship deal.... Olby threw away a 2 goal lead against Athletico leaving the champion's season in disarray. The Athletico boss has said that the introduction of their youth academy has impacted positively as they remain firmly in the top 3. Tranquilayers leap-frogged over Liver Halvers and push on in their target for a top 3 finish. Chamber Athlete were comfortable 2-0 winners over cash strapped Muno. Athlete are on the verge of an investment deal which their chairman believes will bring them the Sporting League title within 3 years. Novia struggled against lowly Pacifica but managed to hold onto their top spot in spite of an inspired revival by the opposition. Red Star are the in form side with a 5-1 thumping of Zindustrious. Will they be top in May for the 1st time since 1990? Time will tell...... Pacifica have fallen into deeper trouble as champions Olby were 2-1 victors and clung onto their outsider chances of regaining the title. Chamber Athlete are a team worthy of the top 5, so it's strange to see them down in 12th place. A 1-0 win over rivals Metronova eased their worries for this week at the very least. Novia and Athletico ended up playing out a predictable stalemate which finished 0-0. Red Star are getting stronger as they edged closer to the leaders Novia with a 3-1 win over Bolsov. The Tranquilayers district is currently in the throes of a flu pandemic, but this didn't stop their resurgent team winning 3-1 on their travels to Bombaya...... Novia suffered their 2nd defeat of the season to a full strength Chamber Athlete. Chamber, who were one of the favourites at the start of the season have found the kind of form that the bookies originally backed them for a top 3 finish. Champions Olby steadied the ship with a convincing 4-2 win over injury hit Liver Halvers. Two consecutive victories has moved them within 7 points of the leaders. Bayerns recorded their third win in a row against Pacifica. They now move into the top 2 and are the bookies new favourites for the title. The Alderbaren consortium have had their latest appeal for control of the Bayerns estate rejected. The municipal convention voted 748-687 against the motion.... Tranquilayers have now recorded their 9th consecutive win - the first time since their title winning season 1986-87. Novia won the battle against champions Olby.Novia are now 4 points clear at the summit and were dominant against a tame Olby side whose chances of retaining the title have all but diminished. Metronova moved up into 6th position after a comfortable 2-0 win over Delta. It now seems a long time since Delta beat Metro to win the first of their turn of the century titles from the year 2000. Bayerns won at a struggling Pacifica despite fielding a reserve squad. The Sporting 8 convention begins next week with the Bayerns region as hosts for the illustrious event. It is expected that there will be a large presence of Universo collunteen supporters to meet delegates in protest at the Bayerns municipalen. Collunteen have been  continually refused access back into the league after 20 years of trouble with their fan base.  ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [5 December 2009] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Game 17: News in brief... The Bayerns no 1 player has officially left the club after a major falling out with the chairman. Details about the reasons are sketchy at the moment but it is believed that a culture of bullying within the backroom staff could harbour a clue. The news comes after Bayerns won 3-0 against Delta with the player in question scoring two of the three goals. The rumour mill also suggests that a move to current league leaders Novia on a free transfer is imminant. Bolsov and Dons have been hit flush on their respective chins after all the players picked up injuries in a fractious 2-2 draw. Leaders Novia were held 1-1 against Green Tree. The Novia coach insisted that the current squad are strong enough to win the title and there's no cash left in the bank for any big signings unless they win the league. Red Star have now moved two points behind  Delta after a last gasp penalty goal against Lunderbach. Red Star have been keen to distance themselves from the recent negative publicity around the clubs 'drinking culture.' PR company Meniscus solutions have been drafted in to restore the professional 'workmanlike' values of the club. Indentine dominated against Tranquilayers but still went down by two goals to one. The win was Tranquilayers 10th league win in a row - a club record which has more than made up for their tentative start to the season. Athletico have still only lost one game this season despite not getting out of 2nd gear as their reserves won 1-0 against Pacifica. Pacifica have been given 72 hours to find funding to prevent the administrators setting up camp at the Coasta stadium. There have been suggestions that a merger with Universo Collunteen could well be on the cards.... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [9 December 2009] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting league game 18: News in brief. Athletico triumphed against Chamber Athlete in a much anticipated derby match. The Athleticans were able to call upon their senior players with two inspired substitutions in the second half which resulted in an 85th minute wonder strike by their number 2 player. Olby again proved too strong for a depleted Delta securinga 2-1 win. It proved to be quite a bizarre encounter with the Olby manager sent off for doing a walking handstand across the pitch in celebration of his sides winning goal. Bayerns played some truly inspiration football as they routinely turned over 16th placed Indentine. Bayerns are now firmly placed in third position and their demanding coach believes that they'll almost certainly be in pole position come what May. Red Star lost a bit of ground after the Pacifica midfield deadened the game - preventing Red Star from playing their usual self assured football. Tranquilayers came back from a goal down with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over a jaded Green Tree.  ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [17 May 2010] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting League Game 19 Novia were dominant in their 3-1 win which was previously predicted by the bookies to be a score draw against Bombaya. Zindustrious have confirmed that they're going to quit The Sporting League at the end of the season whether they end up relegated or not. Their chief executive has said that  'league politics' was the reason. Pacifica were the latest side to turn them over with a 1-0 win at the Pacificos stadium. Champions Olby were stunned at home by Indentine - it now looks impossible for them to have any chance of regaining their title. Athletico made hard work of their match against Colne eventually running out with a deserved 2-1 win. Metronova would have liked to have given their new owners something to celebrate but couldn't keep up with an aggressive Bayerns. Delta won 3-0 against Dons but they're still a shadow of the team that dominated Sporting football in the seasons 2000, 2001 and 2002. Time passes... News just in...Lunderbach have booted out the toffs from their board room and have handed back power to the Matzburgh family. They  left Green Tree choking on their green tea with a convincing 3-2 win.... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [29 August 2010] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Game 20   Novia had to pull out all the stops to preserve the minimal amount of daylight between themselves and the chasing pack. They eventually overcame Metronova with a 3-2 win. Athletico wasted no time down on the golden coast with a 3-1 win over Pacifica. It has been well documented that the coastal giants are starting to look like the first real victims of the recession. Olby came from a goal down to defeat pretenders Red Star as the champions continued to hold onto the outsider’s belief of regaining their beloved sporting league trophy with a well earned 2-1 win. Tranquilayers were winners against manager less Indentine. Two early first half goals for the blues sealed the fate of the red and blacks. Chamber Athlete were desperate to get their season going and a 2-1 win against Lunderbach was much needed. Athlete manager: ‘The league is still our no1 priority, but the 20 point gap is too much to make up at the moment – make no mistake, we’ll be in the top 4 at the end of the season…’ Liver Halvers saw their top two players sent for respective early baths in their 1-0 defeat at Bayerns municipal stadium. Bayerns manager: ‘I’ll tell ye what, we should have put 8 past them today but the keeper was top draw…’ Bolsov were more than happy with the 3 points secured at Colne with a convincing 4-1 victory. There was also a cameo performance from their no1 player. ‘It’s bubbled under him…was he offside?’ That was the familiar cry from the Green Tree commentary box as they piled on an industrial amount of pressure for the long suffering coach of Zindustrious.... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [31 August 2010] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting League: Game 21   Athletico celebrated their new contract with Rayinado conglomerates with a sublime performance against Green Tree. A 6-0 route put the whales in pole position. Red Star ended their lean spell of 3 games without a win by thumping 15th placed Indentine by four goals to one. The Bayerns caretaker boss is said to be considering the boardrooms offer of a permanent contract despite his recent tirade mainly aimed at the 'Mainline' investors. Bolsov boss: 'I was pleased with our performance, I mean we were playing the toughest team in the league out there...a few more games like that and we'll be safe by the end of the season.' Tranquilayers managed to get over the rejection of a new stadium being built in the Hilti forest with a 1-0 win over Delta. Delta chairman: 'Well, that's 14 games without a loss for Tranquilayers. I just hope our players can learn something from that match today. I'll tell ya something, there's not much between us and them - they just seem to have a bit more patience on the ball...that's all..'  Chamber Athlete seemed to do everything but put the ball in the net against Metronova.  Athlete manager: 'I'm at a loss to be honest, we had, what do you say...the bounce of the ball alright, we're just lookin' for some divine intervention right now ...' Champions Olby were in defiant mood as they overpowered a worryingly jaded Novia. Novia boss: 'We need a rest, that's all. Don't forget, these kids are playing in The Sporting league for their first season...I'm really proud with what they've done so far during this campaign. I know we're going to bounce back from this one, but credit to the Olby...I can't see them losing to anyone else this year.' ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [17 September 2010] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Game 22   Novia returned to the summit with a hard fought win against the bottom of the league Muno. The Novia gaffer - 'Well, it's like I've said before...we've just got a bunch of kids out there with heavy legs, the Sporting League Association really need to be looking at a mid season break.' Lunderbach moved closer to Metronova with a well earned win. Metronova had played some of their best stuff since the mid 90's  but were still unable to translate performance into goals. Red Star believe that the've an outsiders chance of winning the title for the 1st time since 1990. Red Star boss - 'I'm very pleased with to be back in the hot seat. We are looking forward to the last 16 games and I believe we'll put a good run together and our target this season is a top 3 finish.' Pacifica were the Red Stars' latest victim as they rolled over in a 2-0 battering. Delta came back from a goal down against Bombaya in the battle for 7th place. Delta are now a 150-1 shot to finish in the top 3. Champions Olby are refusing to give up hope with a 2-1 win over Zindustrious. Olby chief exec, 'I'm not happy with the Zindustrious management, I mean did you see the pictures of the crowd? That was the most intimidating atmosphere I've ever had to endure in all my years in football. I was even thinking of putting some investment their way prior to the game, now I'll be putting in a complaint to The Sporting League...for what it's worth.'   ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [10 October 2010] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Novia extended their lead at the top of the league to two points by beating a resilient Bolsov 2-1. Nova's boss has been fined by The Sporting Council for recent comments directed at top board officials. Tranquilayers looked visibly stunned as they were comprehensively beaten by a resurgent Bombaya by three goals to nil. Tranquilayers boss: 'I was watching the match on the big screen in Sporting City and must confess to a feeling of anxiety when my scouts went to check out Bombaya training the day before. This is a crisis result for us...no doubt about that. I got it wrong...I hold up my hands...our opponents played with creative intelligence.' Olby were back in the mix after putting 2 goals past a dazed Athletico.  A delirious Olby boss: 'I hate Athletico! Our wealth amounts to just a 20th of theirs...yeah we're the shoestring champions. I promise you this we're gonna stay unbeaten now and I've more players coming through! Ye know, Athletico disrespected us earlier this year when they beat us 3-2...what goes around comes around man...what goes around...' Delta made hard work of their match against Colne eventually winning 1-0. Colne have confirmed that they're leaving The Sporting league at the end of the season to explore projects elsewhere. There are rumours that they're currently in the process of collaborating with the exiled intellectual revolutionaries Universo Collunteen. Bayerns and Red Star erred on the side of caution with a 0-0 draw. It has already been voted the most boring game of the year. Bayerns boss: 'we cancelled each other out....perhaps there was a bit too much respect out there today. We'll do the usual post-mortem and research our action plan for the next outing.'   News: # Latent Marketing Solutions have bought a 70% stake in the acquisition of Chamber Athlete. # Dons are developing the creative strand of their business by opening the Cultur Des Artifactos in Centrale Vale. ... The reds players must be wondering how they're still 11 points behind leaders Olby s they've played arguably the best football this season. Olby meanwhile were 2 goals down against struggling Indentine, but 3 second half goals secured them another victory. Olby boss: 'We were lucky out there; we got the breaks and took 'em. Que cera  cera. Our defence were caught sleeping on too many occasions for my liking, no jobs are safe in this team, I hope the defenders get the message after that game. Novia increased their lead at the top to 4 points with a hard fought win over faded giants Delta. Novia captain: 'I nearly signed for the opposition at the start of the year believe it or not - I think they're going to turn a corner especially when the Consought deal goes through. Athletico and Tranquilayers shared the paltry spoils as they both played out a bore draw. Bombaya face the prospect of a 20 point deduction if they are put into administration by their main creditor Leylel bank. A 2-1 win against Lunderbach means that they would still be outside the relegation zone if they fail to discover a new buyer by the end of next week. Green Tree supporters had a peaceful sit in to protest against 'nothing in particular' as they enjoyed a 3-1 win over Metronova. ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [21 October 2010] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Bayerns kept up the intense pressure on leaders Novia with a sublime performance against a bewildered Metronova. Three first half goals from their no2 striker helped the Bayerns cause but the boss was far from convinced. 'There was a lot of sloppy defending all over the park, the guys need to get it together before we face Muno. They've got some good young strikers who'll certainly take their chances.' Red Star won the match of the day against Bombaya 3-1. Red Star boss: 'We really need to concentrate on our game plan at the moment. We've got a team of fantastic individuals out there, but they'll need to stick with the plan of action. I know the Sporting League financial bubble has burst but we've just got to keep up the struggle. If you'd have told me that we'd be 7 points off the top at the beginning of the season, we'd have taken it that's for sure. It's not all doom and gloom my friends.' Dons are virtually safe after a well earned 1-0 win against Lunderbach. An injury time goalmouth scramble by their captain sealed the 3 valuable points. Dons PR executive: 'Two wins in a row have put us in a virtually untouchable position, we've got huge investments lined up for next season...these are exciting times. It's an extremely intricate piece of work we're involved in here at the moment.' Athletico hauled themselves back into the title race with a 1-0 win against Delta. Athletico boss - 'It's looking as though it could go down to the wire this season. We've got a situation where two of our defenders are coming back to full strength, so I'll be looking for a return to the tight ship at the back for the race to the finishing line.' ... It was a carbon copy performance from the same fixture earlier this season. Red Star boss: 'I'm well pleased with that performance against the best team in the league (on paper). We've done the double over them now...I can't believe it's been 20 years since we last managed that!'   Novia came back from the brink to win at the Green Tree concrete forest 2-1.   Sporting radio commentary: Pundit 1: 'Do you actually, now honestly belieeeve that Novia have got what it takes...I mean honestly? Pundit 2: 'Aye, I've jus' got myself a good feelin' there for 'em,. I mean, how many shots did you see on target out there? Nah, I'm takin' a good look at The Olby...its white knuckle time buddy.'   Olby were unstoppable against Chamber Athlete as they hit them for six.   Sporting radio snapshot: ...Pundit 1: 'Well Gavin there was talk about Chamber Athlete being the rightful successors of the Olby crown at the start of the campaign...what's gone wrong over there?' Pundit 2: 'I think they're still young, look, all that financial stuff must've had an impact. I know The Sporting League teams are a resilient bunch but there still needs to be an element of sensitivity when you're dealing with people at the beginning of their respective careers...Next year you're gonna see a big improvement over there...'     ... Ye know, Delta played their percentages really well out there today and were pretty much quid's in at the end of the 90.'  'I must say, the Red Star striker handled the tough Tranquilayers defence really well...I mean, he's diplomatic by nature and kept his head where others would've surely retaliated.' ( Red Star 2-0 Tranquilayers).  End radio.  Athletico found a much needed return to form against Muno with a 3-1 triumph. Athletico boss: 'I'm, erm, what you say, relieved that we got the win. The titles out of our hands now, so we've got to keep the defence solid over the last 10 games and then we'll see...'  Liver Halvers  completely dominated against the league leaders Novia but eventually went down 1-0 to a last kick of the match in the torrential rain.     ... Sporting radio: 'There was a real buzz around the Bayerns stadium at the start of the game but it just seems as though Novia are proving to have the X factor this season.'   There were ongoing protests that led to disruption prior to the Zindustrious and Colne game. The anger felt by the Zindustrious supporters seemed to have had a positive effect on their players as they went on to win 4-0.   Zindustrious are going to become the 1st major team to feel the full force of the Sporting cutbacks as they'll now be hit with a 50% reduction in their regular funding as they're the newcomers to the league.   Red Star recorded their 5th win in a row with a 1-0 score line against Lunderbach. Red Star boss: 'We're relying on others doing us a few favours. There are still a good ten games left to go and we really need to keep ourselves in the top three. We need to grab enough cash to push us on in future seasons - anything else is a bonus...'   The Olby boss admitted that his team will be relinquishing their crown at the end of the season but remained upbeat after a 3-0 win against Bolsov. 'The players are a buzzin' all over the pitch - we're chasin' rainbows now = we're the eternal underdogs, you must believe me. I'm still confident that we're gonna go unbeaten in the last 10 games.'   ## Liver Halvers are still going ahead with proposed strike action in Sporting City after confirmation that they're going to lose all their regular funding from the sporting federation after losing their court battle against Bayerns.   ... Pundit B: 'I agree, the sound of motorbikes really does define this part of the Sporting region, but unfortunately for Colne, it seemed that Metronova were the ones using the horse power out there today.' Bayerns boss: 'I can't believe we managed to get the win against Universo today, they were all over us. We've got some unbelievable defenders in our team - I've never seem so many shots on target for a Bayerns opponent. How we managed to win that one, I'll never know.' Olby missed out on the chance of joining the leaders as they were held at home to a nil-nil draw against a particularly stubborn Lunderbach. Novia hammered Chamber Athlete by four goals to one. Novia boss: 'Pleased with that one, we got the bounce of the ball and that was a result that's certainly gonna help as we move rapidly towards the business end of the season.' ... There were two goals by Bayerns that shouldn't have been allowed but you don't wanna see it - nothing changes eh?' Pundit 'Y': 'I'm not sure you've been studying the offside rule in recent years. I think it was just another disappointing result from Colne, who, lets face it promised so much early doors. I think they were put to the sword by one of the big guns and that's about it. No argument...' The result ended with a three goals to two away victory for Bayerns...Novia looked like the champions again with a four goals to nil win away at former fortress Bombaya...Zindustrious put a shift in at the Athletico stadium but ran out of steam as the whites came back from a goal behind to win by three goals to two. Sporting Radio:  Pundit 'X' : 'What was all that going down with the demonstrations at Sporting City the other day? From what I could see, was the silver spoon brigade, you know the types, those sort of characters, the union reps in the designer suits, students from the exclusive Hilti forest region quaffing champagne on a day out to upset mummy and daddy.' Pundit 'Y': 'Oh man, this is gonna be a long shift. I saw a whole lot different folk down there the other day, Don't you think there is a very serious problem in The Sporting League at the moment? We might not be havin' anythin' to commentate on if things carry on the way they are...'    ... The Novia boss has joined an undisclosed three top clubs in the chase for the new stars of  The Colbreck league, currently plying their trade at Breekins as their contracts expire over the summer. Novia's new director of football believes that he can lure the duo to the club, despite tough competition...Bayerns sure made hard work of their win over Metronova, eventually running out as winners by two goals to one....The Red Star boss launched an unprecedented tirade of aggression towards the Chamber Athlete bench as the reds also went down by two goals to one. Naturally, the Sporting Federation will be reviewing the situation before inevitable action is taken. Red Star boss...'If the ol' top brass want to play silly buggers then bring it on. I'm keepin' my mouth well and truly closed - in fact - if they want to fine me, I won't be communicating with the press for as long as I'm involved in the game.' A painting found under a sofa at Indentine stadium has been reportedly valued at 1000,000 sportingos.   ... They're technically very good but they can't keep themselves consistent...big problem! Here's the quandary for me...how many youngsters can they fit in? It's near impossible to learn on the job at Sporting League level...' Pundit 'Y': 'Aye, yeah, never thought about it that way really...'   Yop Lane continued with their impressive first year of Sporting football with a two goals to nil win over Zindustrious. Yop boss: 'Fifth place after twenty three games...I'd have taken that at the start of the season, yeah. The kids now need to push on and steady the ship until we find out what our budget will be in the summer transfer market.' Novia dropped a couple of points against Green Tree in a match that ended up a goal a piece. Novia boss: 'Look, I don't mind going to play at Green Tree, but they're always having sit ins - I'd just wish they'd wait until we get ourselves on the coach before getting the camp fires burnin'.     ... Bayerns boss: I never doubted that we'd get a result here, but the opposition made it difficult for long spells. I think Indentine are one of those love 'em hate 'em clubs - I love 'em coz we beat 'em! Novia won their game against Yop Lane with two fine first half strikes from their number one player. Novia chairperson: ‘Well that kept them quiet didn’t it? We heard so much hype from Yop Lane prior to the match that I was getting a bit of the old earache! Well done to our lot for keeping them quiet. I mean, who wants to lose against a team with the most ridiculous name in Sporting League history?’ Olby lost touch with the leaders after stumbling by a goal to nil against a rejuvenated Colne who looked as though they wanted to make a break away from the drop zone.... Olby boss: 'I don't understand how the ref missed that one. Lets just say that I've already been fined for my comments this season, so I'll let you fill in the missing gaps about what I'm really wanting to say right now.'   Athletico moved back into contention with an away win over the Delta  youngsters. Delta boss: 'We've decided to bring forward our policy of giving the youngies a chance now. We're out of contention on all fronts so now is a good opportunity to see how the youth academy is coming along.'   Universo Collunteen proved to be too strong for Bombaya and now look like they could challenge for honours in future seasons. Universo boss - 'We've kinda changed our philosophy over the couple of years that we were out of the league, did a lot of touring and that. I think we could be challenging for honours sooner than the big guns would like to admit - in spite of our tight budget.' ... Tranquilayers boss: 'What are you supposed to say after your team seemed to have it in the bag at half time? I've got no complaints, our back line really let the rest of the team down out there...I'm off for a cigarette.' Athletico kept up the pressure with a three goals to two win over Universo Collunteen   Sporting Radio: Pundit 1: Look, I've heard it all now, do you really think Athletico have got the strength to keep up with Bayerns and Novia. I've said all season that they needed to bring in some quality over the summer to sustain themselves. I think they looked leggy out there today and only got the points after a dubious goal. We'll see whether or not they prove to be a coupon buster, I have my serious doubts on that one.' Zindustrious had a lot to be pleased about after their two goals to nil win over Dons as they eased out of the danger zone for the time being. Zindustrious boss: 'We've just made a deal with Halloch Corporation which basically means that we can hold onto our loan players until the end of the season!'       ... Teams like them have been lowering the bar for too many seasons now. They always go hunting for top three rejects around this time of year on loans to keep the rest us enduring their painful football for what seems like an eternity.' ... Our players look after themselves and we proved that by putting in a shift defensively. We got a lot of stick this season for our so called defection from The Colbreck League but I think we’ve always been a Sporting League team at heart.’   Sporting Radio: Pundit A: ‘I dunno, look I think Yop have earned their stripes. If you look at it objectively, they’ve played some of the most exciting stuff this season? We need to look at our defensive policy next season and kick on from there…’    Novia were quick to take advantage of the leaders slip up to win by three goals to nil away to Lunderbach.   Universo Collunteen continued their great run with a three goals to nil thrashing of Tranquilayers.    Sporting Radio Pundit B: ‘I heard a rumour this afternoon that the Athletico boss is heading for the exit at the end of another underachieving season.’... We are all gutted.’ Bayerns were too strong for a weary looking Liver Halvers winning by three goals to one…Olby all but ended the Athletico challenge with a well earned one goal to nil victory…Green Tree pushed Indentine into the bottom two relegation zone with a well balanced and confident performance….    ... It is a strange league…Novia were playing dreadfully earlier on in the season and now they’re in with a decent shout..’   Pundit E: ‘I think a lot of people would say that the Red Star youngsters were introduced way too early…it was a sudden transformation from the team of last year…this is the same side that finished runners up  - crazy stuff.’   The top three all won their games, so nothing has changes as far as the positions go. Bayerns took a major step to the title with a three goals to two victory against old foes Tranquilayers.   Lunderbach and Indentine both remained in the basement with defeats against Red Star and Yop Lane.... Dons boss: 'Look, anything we could've got from the Bayerns game was always going to be a bonus. I was as surprised as the next person that we came away with three golden points.' Athletico blew their chance of taking advantage of the Bayerns slip up as they were held by a brilliant Bombaya. Champions Novia moved level on points with the leaders - winning against Universo by two goals to one. Universo executive: 'When you look at some of the decisions that went against us, it makes one think whether our activism off the field can influence some of the key decisions on the field. I think that ref needs to take a long look at himself...'   Sporting Radio: Pundit X: '...and the Bayerns no1 player?' Caller: 'To be fair, well yeah, he's a Rolls Royce.' ... Novia boss: 'I was told that my no2 defender might actually have a minor groin strain - something we could do without at such a crucial stage in the season. I'm the gaffer and will have to make a call about the fitness levels of the player prior to the next match.' The Yop Lane run continued as the Yoppites beat Chamber Athlete at home by two goals to nil. Red Star kept up the fight for a financial top five bonus with a three goals to two win over Delta.   Sporting Radio: Pundit X: 'Don't you go thinking the title race is a done deal, though...anything less than a Bayerns win will be welcomed by Novia, who are relying on the legends stumbling in the home straight - and Zindustrious are in no mood to be lambs to the slaughter at the Bayerns Metropolitan stadium.' ... Sporting Radio: Pundit A: "I'm not sure if the Bayerns gaffer is one for omens but they have never won the league after losing in the last five matches of the season." Pundit B: "I don't think that sort of stuff will bother him - more a thing for us anoraks methinks!" Pundit A: "Well, I think the Bayerns were well and truly outplayed there today...Novia showed us why they're the champions...it was a good advert for Sporting League football." Indentine were pushed to the brink and now need nothing short of a miracle if they're going to keep themselves in the league as they went down by two goals to one against fellow strugglers Dons. Dons trainer: 'Come on Dons! That was gritty stuff we showed out there. The Tines meant business today, but we were too tough for 'em. Go ooon Dons...' Indentine boss: "Feel a bit aggrieved to be honest. It's like Zindustrious came along and replicated our model and basically stole their way into the league. Where did our sponsors of twenty years go to? Where did our youth team go? I think our ex chair has a lot to answer for. We were a team on the up a few seasons back. Luckily for us, there are always swings and roundabouts. We've really gotta knuckle down if we're staying in the league over the last two games."     ... Pundit Y: "It's never over till the boat puts down the anchor...I think three nil hammering of Indentine won't do them any harm as they go into the last game." Pundit A: "How about Indentine then? That defeat means that they're the first confirmed relegation candidate." Pundit Y: "Yeah, it's always a sad day when a long standing team falls out of the league. I'm sure they'll be back for re-election in the next couple of years, I mean look what a break did to revitalize the Universo Collunteen cause?" Pundit A: "What d'ya think is going to happen to Bayerns?" Pundit Y: "Well, I can see them keeping their cool in the last match. Novia boss: ‘Credit to  the lads out there today, I’m still waiting for the Bayerns result to come through but it looks like we’ve blown it to be honest…can’t really say any more to you guys at the moment, it’s very emotional for the players in the dressing room.’   Bayerns took their first title for four years with a solid performance against Delta. Bayerns boss: ‘Brillaint, can’t believe it to be fair! I thought Novia were gonna get at least a draw against Olby. Our players were so low after our defeat to Novia two weeks ago, but we continued to believe in ourselves, digging deep and here we are with the Sporting League trophy! I’ve got huge respect for our board, who in spite of all the financial difficulties over the last year, made funds available in the New Year…that was the key for us.’ Athletico recorded the highest ever points tally for third place (ninety two points) with a two goals to one win over Tranquilayers. Athletico chairperson: ‘ Lovely performance there. I’m well pleased with all the staff, remember, we’re the only truly independent club in The Sporting League and the financial rewards for a top three finish in the current climate cannot be underestimated.’ Dons joined Indentine as the second relegated team as they were beaten in a fiery performance by Bombaya. Dons boss: ‘We’ll do the tour for a few years, we need the time out to be fair. I criticised Bombaya at the start of the game for their commitment, but I’ve gotta eat my words now.'   **Dons have now officially sacked their boss as they have said there needs to be a ‘serious downscale of the company.’ (Dons PR dept).   Sporting Athlete return to the league next season after winning the Vello Cup. Sporting Radio: Pundit A: ‘I’m just feeling a little tired at how easily Lunderbach rolled over out there today. I think they’ve got the quality to be a top eight side, but the desire just isn’t there.’ Pundit B: ‘I think if you look a little closer, you’d find out that all the problems with the board over the last ten years has had a huge impact over there.’ Pundit A: ‘How are you doing today? I saw your face in the crowd at the three nil home win for Athletico against Tranquilayers…you didn’t appear too pleased?’ Pundit B, ‘Aye, OK, don’t start rubbing it in, it’s well documented that my shares in the club haven’t been coming up trumps for me for a while now. They seem to be getting lambasted for defecting from The Colbreck league and making something of themselves…a familiar green eyed cry if you ask me.’   Novia made it three straight wins in a row winning by a goal to nil against Bombaya. Novia gaffer: ‘That will do me fine. I’m pleased with our defensive record over the first three – no goals conceded but injury to the central defender is a concern for us now. I can’t believe the Bombaya striker wasn’t given the marching orders, but there you go.’   Tranquilayers recorded their worst ever start to a Sporting season and found themselves rooted to the foot of the table after losing four goals to nil at home to Yop Lane.   Newly elected Sporting Athlete beat Athletico by two goals to one in what was the surprise result of the day. Sporting boss: ‘We’ve been out of the league for about fifteen years, so to come back and win against Athletico is a dream come true. Pundit B: 'Can't be sure to be honest. They've got history - make no bones about it but I just get a bit of a feeling that it could be a draw. I was down at the Novia ground the other day actually. Ye remember that guy, erm, he was working on the tills a couple of years back, really chatty bloke?' Pundit A: 'Oh aye, I couldn't get away...' Pundit B: 'Well, yeah, he's only gone and gotten himself on the board! That's what I love about Novia - the class divide isn't as strong as most clubs and that include our champagne socialist types Universo Collunteen.' Pundit A: 'Ok, Ok, back to the games- I'm lookin' at the table and see Tranquilayers at the bottom, have they got their work cut out for themselves against Universo? Pundit B: 'It's the rich versus the so called poor. I don't get all this working class Universo talk, I mean it was a run down area back in the 80's but it's a bit of an intellectual hub nowadays. The match? Well, I can see Universo winning that one, not by much, but Tranquilayers just haven't got themselves out of the traps yet.' Pundit A: 'Bayerns won't have any problems  against Colne. I'm going to be going over to that game ye know? Gets m'self a good round of golf in the mornin', the races in the afternoon and the match in the evenin - love me visits to the Bayerns.' Pundit B: 'Will I get the perks if I get your job when you call it a day?' Studio laughter. Pundit A: 'Come back in twenty years and ask that question again son.' Pundit B: 'Yop Lane. I hear they were talking about an easy win against Sporting Athlete even though they beat a strong Athletico side, do you think there's a bit too much disrespect coming out of the Yop press office?' Pundit A: 'I think they've got a good mentality. I'm doin' an after dinner speech down there next week, it's gonna be one of those high brow affairs. I'm only gonna be sayin' good things about about them, they really put on a good show down there. As for the match, well, could be a draw mate.' Pundit A: 'I'm not sure about Universo ye know. I think they've been a bit lucky over the last few games and get a bit of a feeling that the ol' Tranquilayers will turn 'em over.' Pundit C: 'Well, I've got my place ready on the bench when Athletico play Olby.' Pundit C: 'How on earth did you get that? It costs a fortune on the cheap seats in Athletico stadium.' Pundit C: 'Lets just say that I won in my round of golf against the Athletican Chief Executive. I know people in high places...' Pundit A: 'I think we're being wound up mate, I'm the one who gets all the exclusive gigs around here. Seriously, are you on the bench?' Pundit C: 'Aye, I've got some big contacts as well you know..I do a lot of after dinner speeches.' Pundit B: Well, I quite like the look of Liver Halvers for an away win against Pacifica. Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [31 May 2011] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting League: Game 4 Novia maintained a one hundred percent start to the season with a two goals to nil away win at Red Star. Novia boss: 'We picked up a few injuries to key players out there today - not too sure why the ref wasn't picking up on it. I think we need a few more pennies in the budget if we're going to sustain the pressure. I don't speak to the board to be honest, I do my thing and they do theirs, we don't get on, I've told them so in the past. I hope the pressure from our core supporters can turn the screw on 'em a bit.' Universo Collunteen made it four straight defeats for Tranquilayers as they eased home by two goals to one - playing with a second string squad. Universo gaffer: 'I just seem to feel tired all the time at the moment. I was getting it in the neck down the Universo local at the start of the game for sending out my second team, but I really believed we were going to win. It can be tough coz I'm also a supporter so I see those down the local as important as my backroom staff. Yeah, it's tough, but second place after four games is alright. I'm of for a few jars now and I think I'll treat myself to fish and chips from the Universo café...you should try 'em - better than the cardboard variety you tend to get at the so called big guns Tranquilayers...' Colne shocked the champions Bayerns  home support with a two goals to nil triumph. Athletico and Olby shared the spoils in a six goal thriller, drawing three goals a piece.   ... Sporting radio: Pundit X: 'Man, that was one hell of a game tonight - these teams back in the league kinda reminds me of the early days...I don't know how to explain it...it harked back to the jumpers for goalpost, ye know, when the world was your oyster and all that malarkey.' Pundit Y: 'Did you spend some time supping in the bar at half time?' Pundit X: 'Ha, lets just say that I've got exclusive passes, ye kno' - access all areas n' that. I'm more of a champers with the chief execs kinda guy than in the dusty bars. Tell ya what tho' - they do great prawn sarnies down at Sporting Athlete!'   Injury hit Novia unsurprisingly dropped their first points of the season with a one - one draw with Athletico. Champions Bayerns recovered from their shock defeat at home to Colne with a home win over Zindustrious. Bayerns boss: I'm kinda annoyed with the Zindustrious stewards for allowing their lot to smuggle in amps and guitars...it was like being at a thrash metal concert, I have a splitting headache - just pleased that our players are true pro's and managed to block it out.' Kings of cool Pointeso made hard work of their clash against Pacifica, finally running out winners by a goal to nil with just three minutes left on the clock. The game of the day had to be the two-all draw between Olby and Yop Lane.  Yop supporter: ' I had a weird trip into Olby city. I'd driven from the Colbreck region. Have you ever been over that way...very different from the sporting zone, believe me. I got lost, found myself driving and driving through the desert - miles of endless roads, run down petrol stations, trees, signs along the road...ye kno' flags flying, clouds reflecting in my sunglasses. I didn't reach the stadium until half time - my beloved Yop were two goals down. I've been following them from the early days, d'ya know what I'm sayin'? Do you like my Yop Lane socks...they've got little diamonds on 'em...look! Gots 'em out of the Yop shop..'     ... Olby supporter: 'I'm spending all this cash for a season ticket to see us play like that...atrocious! I find it hard to believe that we won the title a couple of seasons ago now. We were all harping on about a new dawn, new horizons and all that. Credit to Universo, they've worked wonders with a financial deficit since getting themselves back in the top flight. I just don't think the governors want to shell out the cash for a couple of big signings...gutted.' Bayerns looked devoid of ideas at home to Chamber Athlete as the visitors scored a last gasp penalty leaving the champions licking their wounds. Yop Lane ended injury hit Novia's unbeaten start with a deserved two goals to one triumph. The battle of the rich and the avante garde took place between Tranquilayers and new kids Pointeso, ending in a two - two draw. Pointeso boss: 'I'm looking at our defence. Did you see how many times their forwards lashed out? I think there is always going to be the advantage played to the old guard like Tranquilayers. I haven't seen them win a title since, when, 1995? I think we're a cool team, good looking I hasten to add. We've got the best stadium, the best players and a good work ethic. I can't say the same about Tranquilayers. I don't want to talk about them any more.'       ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [5 June 2011] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting League Game 7   It was a day where Universo Collunteen laid down their statement of intent after coming back from two goals down to defeat ex champions Novia by three goals to two. Sporting radio Pundit X: ‘The thing you’ve got down at Universo is that all their players are home grown…have you noticed that? Universo have always been known for their distaste for ‘in clubs’ and ‘cliques,’ but that’s precisely the mould in which they’ve re-invented themselves.’ Pundit B: ‘Well shall we take a Pat Butchers at the Bayerns defeat? What was going on there?’ Pundit X: ‘Sometimes it’s tough starting out the next season as champions – I really think the Bayerns players look weary. Nothing seemed to be clicking against a Delta side that are surely looking to get themselves back in the top six – although I’m sure no one would’ve thought they’d be in second place at this early stage would they?' Pundit B: 'And a quick look down at the bottom of the table – any early relegation clues for you?' Pundit X: ‘Well it looks as though Tranquilayers poor start has come to an end after the win over Metronova. I think they’ll move on up to the top half now, but they need some more players to come through the ol’ ranks. I’m looking at Zindustrious now, I thought they did OK in the draw with Chamber Athlete, but I just can’t see them getting out of the bottom three. I think Liver Halvers will also have a long season along with Green Tree. All these clubs have something in common and that’s a lack of strength in depth. I was in the car park the other day and bumped into the Green Tree Chairperson – I don’t know, he was there on his clapped out bicycle – lovely bloke – absolutely loaded though – you’ll never see him up at the Hilti forest golf club.’ Pundit B: ‘There’s more to life than golf and races mate…’ Pundit X: ‘So, are you comin’ for a round later?’ Pundit B: ‘Oh aye, wouldn’t miss it for the Sporting world…you can check out the new sports car bought with my promotion dosh.’        ... Yop Lane kept up the pressure with a three goals to one win over a depleted Bombaya side. Tranquilayers continued their move up the table with a two goals to nil home win over Green Tree. Sporting radio pundit R: 'I can't believe Bayerns getting that last gasp goal over Pacifica - I think it looked offside all day long to me. If you guys out there think differently, call in to the station - you know the number...'   ... Universo gaffer: 'I'm amazed that teams like Bombaya have started to insist on financial support in the current climate. We (Universo) influence a large section of the Sporting League unions. Come to Universo City and we'll see if something can be done. I seem to get a weekly fine for saying that some elements of the Sporting League are corrupt to the core. Please Bombaya, don't accept their hand outs!'  Delta continued their run with an away win over Chamber Athlete.  Bayerns won the derby game against old foes Tranquilayers by a goal to nil. Tranquilayers supporter on Sporting Radio phone in: 'It hasn't been a big game since we last won the league back in 1995. We really need to go back to the grass roots philosophy and couple that with some big buys. Our chairperson just won't open the purse strings. There is money at Tranquilayers - we're still the most exclusive region in Sporting football, but try convincing the board to spend!'   The perennial slackers Novia beat avante garde cool new kids on the block Pointeso by a goal to nought.   News: Delta have banned gambling in their region for six months...Metronova have commissioned a new 100ft sculpture in the downtown Leybergh district...Yop Lane have let their number two defender move to Colbreck club Bayerticks on a free transfer.     ... The contracts down there are second to none, I mean, I can’t see the player getting into a bigger team.’   Pundit Y: ‘I hear a move to Universo could be on the cards…up and coming team’   Pundit X: ‘I don’t get all this Universo carnival, I can’t see it lasting, the cream always rises to the top. Anyway, what’s the Universo zone got? It’s got a bit of an underground scene for the kids but not much else. I love living in the Athletico zone myself, I’d be lost withou…’   Pundit Y: ‘Without your golf!? C’mon man, these are new times, I’m a bit of an oldie myself nowadays, but lets just say that I’m still partial to hanging out in the Velasch bar in downtown Pointeso!’    ... Yop boss: 'Points in the bag - should be a case of onwards and upwards from here on. I'm happy with the way our team has adjusted to this league and feel we could aim to try and get ourselves in the top three. Our Chairperson is a bit of a euphuist behind the scenes, I can't understand a word of it man, but in the dug out we all speak the same language and boy oh boy, that's why we're on the march!'   Champions Bayerns seemed to put their uncharacteristic poor start to the season behind them with a crucial goal to nil win over Olby. Bayerns manager PA: 'The manager has currently gone straight to the board room on private business, but what I will say is that I think we need a bit more depth in the squad. Last season took its toll, and I feel that the supporters will need to be patient as we are probably in a rebuilding phase.'   Athletico made a remarkable comeback against leaders Universo Collunteen with a three - three draw. Sporting Radio: Pundit N: 'Athletico were the better side over the ninety minutes but those two early penalties conceded may come back to haunt 'em at the business end of the season. I think a lot of the Universo players have got good elevation, good pace and great at going wide. It's always gonna be a difficult ask against an accomplished outfit like the Athleticans. I guess Universo will take that draw.'   Pundit K: 'Yee, quality wiv a capital Q will always go a long way in this league.' ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [12 June 2011] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting League: Game 12   Universo silenced the wall of abuse from Yop Lane supporters with a decisive home win by three goals to one. Universo boss: 'I'm annoyed at the media for winding up the Yop supporters today, things were getting pretty scary up in the stands. The thing is, you get a lot of people coming across from the Colbreck district and I don't care what any of the do gooders say, there are still tensions that run deep between the leagues. As for our performance? Sublime.' Novia lost a bit of ground on the leaders after being held by the ailing champions Bayerns. Novia supporter: 'It was pissing it down out there, I can't think of a time when any of the players were all on their feet - like a bunch of ducks skating across the frozen Mollochi lakes.' Athletico managed to hang onto the coat tails of the leaders as they won away at Liver Halvers. Sporting Radio: Pundit X: 'My heads a spinnin' after that game. I like that aggressive streak that the Athleticans have brought into their game, although they need to try and get the balance right. I detect a decrescent air around the Halvers stadium. I was walking around behind the scenes and thought to myself that it could all do with a lick of paint. I can see that the place was loved once but I don't know, there is a bit of a sad feeling about the gaff. The thing is mate, I know the staff can't offer me free executive golf passes and champers but they're a lovely lot...really humble.' Pundit Y: 'I can see 'em goin' down this season mate.'   ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [14 June 2011] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting League: Game 13   Universo continued their quest for Sporting League domination with a hard fought two goals to one win away against Colne. Universo boss: 'I think we started that game in reverse, there wasn't much energy in our younger players. Hey, we're still unbeaten - not bad for a run down University City team eh? I love the atmosphere at the Colne ground in that it's rather unsettling. (To a Sporting Times reporter)Have you noticed that? The crowd appeared to indulge in a kind of drawn out murmuration that lasted for the whole of the first half. I think it affected our kids to be honest. The Universo old guard support found their lungs in the second half, and hey presto the ol' points were in the bag. I'm happy, we grafted out there, the board will have to let the moths fly from their wallets this month and give us all a pay rise.'   Novia won by three goals to two against Zindustrious. Novia B team coach: 'I love coming to Zindustrious. I used to work on estate 45a ye know? Yeah, I worked on a production line at Maitville Industries. We used to pack various components and things that make the Zindustrious city centre work apparently. There were lots of nuts, bolts and wires. I liked it there, in the factory I mean. I think my mind was erm well... they were very good to me. I used to wear overalls and a mask and ear plugs...I guess it was kinda strange. I liked the banter - a bit like at the Novia training ground.'   Athletico slipped eight points behind the leaders as they were beaten by avante garde icons Pointeso.  Pointeso boss: I'm told their number one player might actually have a minor groin strain, which would explain why he wasn't involved in the Athletican squad at all at the moment. Should he have started if he was fully fit. Interesting isn't it? I think we lost a bit of cash without that player out there - but we deserved our points.'       ... I think the heat got to the Halvers. I couldn't help but notice how the away team seemed to get the water down their necks every time the ball was kicked in to touch - something the home side didn't appear to do.' Pundit Y: 'To be fair to the Halvers, their manager has been juggling dust for the last three seasons.'   ... Pointeso boss: 'We outplayed them and they outkicked us...simple as...' The one goal to nil win moved the Collunteen seven points clear but they picked up a lot of injuries - their no2 player is said to be out for at least ten games.   Novia came unstuck against Delta losing the lowest amount of goals conceded by any team thus far. Sporting Radio Pundit R: 'That was a big upset for Novia. They had a lot of possession but didn't appear to want convert that into goals. I don't know about all this celebrity culture stuff, I really do think it's affected the Novia's performances. I believe that they're, on paper, the strongest team in the league. Perhaps that was a watershed game coz the older heads of Delta ruled that game?'   The Bayern's players body language said it all as they're already eleven points behind the leaders after losing by three goals to two against ninth placed Red Star.   Yop Lane moved into second place after a victory over Metronova.     ... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [17 June 2011] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting League: Game 16   Metronova were the next lambs to the slaughter at the hands of leaders Universo as they suffered a four goal drubbing at home without reply. Metronova gaffer: 'I remember playing them in a friendly just before they were promoted back into the league last year and we hammered them seven goals to nil! It was the last friendly match before the season proper, so both clubs played as though it was a league game. Boy oh boy, how much they've improved! I think we must've had about ten percent possession out there -if that! There just wasn't a thing we could do. If they play the rest of their games like that then they're gonna get a Sporting title and a point's record! Man, I needs meeself a bit of a lie down.'   Yop Lane were too tough for Green Tree as they reminded leaders Universo that there is still something of a league going on below them.  Yop Chairperson: Hmmm, an interesting performance to say the very least. Here at Yop Lane we take pride in our heuristic approach to tactics which seemed to be somewhat lacking in the performance today. Granted, we may be second at the moment but I'm not entirely convinced that we're moving in a direction that is in line with our philosophy.'   Olby put the brakes on the Tranquilayers resurgence with a late goal to win at Olby stadium. Olby supporter: 'Come on Olby, come on Olby...' (etc).   It was an unusual atmosphere at champions Bayerns ground as they defeated Athletico by two goals to one. Bayerns boss: 'We've got a huge section of the press writing ourselves and Athletico off this season which suits us both to be honest. Rebuilding takes time, it's our intention to kick the can round the stadium for the season and see what it looks like at the end...hopefully without too many dents and scuff marks.'   Red Star drew around the Zindustrious problems in fluorescent marker pen as they ran out winners by four goals to one.   Sporting City are looking to develop their home club Sporting Athlete but are struggling to find a buyer because of it's location just outside the boundary of the Kapitale in the industrial region of Hasting Maye.   ... Bayerns boss: ' The players were quiescent in the second half..I can't explain it. You know when you play those computer games where 'player two' isn't selected? That was us. We were just running around without direction. No excuses...' Sporting Radio pundit Y: 'A lot of supporters have nine to five jobs. This game is a religion, they spend all their wages on their teams so I can see why they get frustrated, but they also need to give the new boss a chance. I don't see what good venomous abuse is going to do even before the new coaches have parked themselves in the dugout. Red Star made some poor purchases last year - now they're paying the price. The fans have to accept that they're going to be a mid-table team for a few years.'  Red Star went on to win away to Chamber Athlete by two goals to one.   Sporting Radio Pundit R:'I get the feeling that the same impact of playing in The Sporting League kind of lacks the early buzz of the 1980.' Pundit S: 'I don't agree. Look, I think there is a bit of an undercurrent at the moment, things are changing. Look, we've had teams like Novia, Delta and Olby winning in recent years. I only see that as a positive thing. You walk through Sporting City at midnight, the place is buzzing at the moment. I don't get where it gets a reputation for being a sterile place. OK - it's not the same as going for the nightlife in Athletico or underground scenes happening in Universo and Pointeso, but things are happening.'   ... Sporting Radio pundit A: 'Bayerns have to move on from it mentally. You often find when young footballers come in there is a lack of fear - we're seeing that happen with Universo. However, with Bayerns who are slightly older and more experienced you see them end up playing it really safe, it can become a bit of a millstone around the neck. I think Universo were unlucky not to get three or four out there today, despite only having about thirty percent of the possession.' Yop Lane moved closer to the top after winning with their second string squad against Zindustrious.' Novia beat Sporting Athlete by a goal to nil at home. Novia boss: 'We were lucky out there today, their forwards just didn't create goals. We were hounded in midfield but managed to hang on. It was one of those games where we ground out a result...I'm very proud of the players and those kind of points can make all the difference at the business end of the season.' Athletico won the derby game against Chamber Athlete by two goals to one. Sporting Radio pundit Y: 'Athletico were lacking creativity in the midfield. I think it's unusual for the Athleticans to be soft in an area that they've always excelled....they're putting square pegs in round holes.'   In spite of Olby's poor start to the season, their theatre district is in the ascendancy: Playeso theatre boss: 'I'm very proud of the shows and pieces we make but I wish more and more that audiences could see inside the rehearsal room, a bit like the footballers dressing rooms to be honest. That's where theatre is most like itself: a liquid thing, restless, full of spontaneities and unexpected shifts. I think we're developing something quite unique down here - Olby could turn out to be The Sporting capital of culture. We are looking to put a few bids in to the sporting council for a new arts centre but the current climate of unrest has put the brakes on for the next six months.'   ... Universo boss: credit to Zindustrious, they battled hard out there against us but our players won't give up...ever.  There's ways, even when things go against you, of losing games and today wasn't one of them. We held on there in the end and we've got another three good points in the bag.' Yop Lane remained hot on the heels of the leaders with a comfortable two goals to nil win over Chamber Athlete. Novia seemed to relax into their game of late after a fine one goal to nil win away at Olby. Olby boss: 'I'm suffering permanent headaches at the moment; I'm at war with the board as they don't want to pay the big wages that would move us onto another level. A call out to the beloved supporter, please don't blame me!'   Sporting Radio Pundit Y: 'I've hardly seen the Delta number one player have a bad game. They lost by four goals to two against the Athleticans today and their top player got both goals. I don't understand why the move to Athletico didn't happen at the start of the season, although, rumour has it that Universo are keeping tabs.' Pointeso celebrated their bronze key award with a three goals to nil win over basement club Green Tree.  Green tree boss: 'I feel for our supporters. I can only tell them to hang on in there, although I don't blame them for beginning to lose patience. We all know that the prospect of relegation would also spell the end of our festival season...it's a really tough league. Even our most optimistic of supporters were rubbing their eyes in disbelief today. We had sixty five percent of the possession and played some fantastic stuff but were still hammered. It's a case of sleeves up and get ready for the next match.' ... Sporting Radio Pundit S: ‘Things don’t look good for Lunderbach off the field either after a 37 page secret report was about to be released earlier in the day about their main sponsors Vallosch. However, The Sporting City think tank Mait Consortium managed to get a late injunction which meant that it is currently in the hands of the underground agency Sporting Pollozza. We’ll update you when we get more information. I went to Lunderbach last year actually, everyone was drinking, dancing, the lager was wonderful and as for the food. It’s a great city, pretty small in comparison to many Sporting areas, but in my opinion much underestimated.’   Green Tree recorded their third win of the season and their second win in a row with a four goals to nil score line. Athletico won by two goals to one at Tranquilayers by two goals to one. Athletico boss: ‘I keep hearing rumours about myself that I’m about to jump ship and move to Novia. Pacifica boss: 'Well that's put a bit of daylight between us and the other relegation candidates. There were a lot of big performances out there. I was driving down the Pacifica coast this morning thinking about the game when a brick chip fell off a building site and just missed my car. It was then that I realized it was going to be a special day. We were proper underdogs out there; I mean Universo had gone twenty one games without defeat before today. I think a few of those Sporting radio pundits will be eating the what you say...humble pie? Yeah...that's what they're consuming this evening.' Yop Lane failed to take advantage of the Universo slip up after throwing away a solid lead to lose by three goals to two at home to Tranquilayers. Novia moved closer to the leaders as they continued their impressive form with a two goals to one away win over Bombaya. Green Tree came back from two goals down to frustrate fading champions Bayerns in a match that finished two goals a piece. Bayerns boss: 'We started well out there, but some of the older players legs seemed to buckle around the eightieth minute which let the opposition in. I'm pleased that we are the highest scorers in the league, but that's all we've got to shout about at the minute. Let's just remember that we are a club in transition. OK?' ... I just think they need to look at the grass roots again. It's always difficult to work out exactly why they haven't managed to show any of the form that made them dominant in the early noughties. Mind you, they do a good buffet down there and they sent me home in the ol' limo, so I don't have any complaints about the hospitality.'   Novia all but said goodbye to their title hopes after a defeat against fellow contenders and rivals Yop Lane. Novia boss: 'We were very tired out there, in fact abject if you like? We threw away a two goal home advantage and just seemed to lose heart after the Yoppites put one past us. I'm expecting a strong run in now, and hope we can concentrate on our own game and wait for other results to work in our favour. Sporting radio pundit X: 'What was that all about eh? Was it just the heat or have they been putting summit in the water down there? I think the Red Star players should be ashamed of themselves. Did you know that their wage bill is third only to Bayerns and Athletico? They've massively underachieved and I hope the sporting commission throws the book at them. I've noticed that the self discipline seems to have waned over the last few years. look, it they wanna be pampered they can take the long walk outta here. Well, I'd kick 'em straight out anyway. Novia boss; they're really exciting prospects for the future. Sporting radio Pundit X: ‘I think the Athletican coffers have been hit for six in the current economic climate. My worry for them is how it’s gonna affect them over the next five years or so. I think a lot of clubs have got some tough times ahead and it really does pose the question as to whether The Sporting League itself is no longer sustainable. However, you wouldn’t have noticed too many problems on the field for them today as they very nearly defeated the league leaders. Lets face it guys, Universo are lucky to have come out of that one with a point…’   Bogey team Colne caused another top team upset by winning against a Yop Lane side by two goals to one. Yop boss: ‘We’re relying on other results going for us now in terms of our slim chances of winning the title. I’ve tried my best to replicate the Colbreck success in The Sporting League, but I’m finding it very difficult attracting top players to a small club over the summer months. We’re clutching at straws at the moment – I even considered calling my mate who was once Bayerns number one player back in 1988 to come out of retirement just to give some of our kids a bit of mentoring.’   Novia moved within six points of the leaders with eight games remaining to beat Green Tree by three goals to one.   News just in Sporting Radio live report: Pundit R: ‘Well I’m currently stood in Pointeso city centre and have just been informed that Pointeso have booted out their head coach for attempting to fix the match against Bombaya. People need to understand that each and every player here is very skilled, professional and works to our collaborative work ethic. Go and write about the price of Sporting League butter or something – the silly season doesn’t start until the last match is played.’ Chamber Athlete beat Sporting Athlete by two goals to one…Sporting Radio pundit X: ‘Well the big story of the day is the Sporting Athlete raid on the two youngest prospects based at Chamber. Athletico and Bayerns played in a thrilling two - two draw. Sporting Radio: Pundit X: 'I think the Bayerns chairperson will be satisfied with that out after the recent dummy throwing exercise. I think it's about time this character came out and faced the Bayerns supporters. It's all very well throwing your weight around in the vaults of Sporting City, but, as I said, it's about time that this shady character showed the ol' mug.' Pacifica maintained their impressive start with a two - one win over Delta...There was trouble between the players in the tunnel between Red Star and Pointeso after a one - one draw. Sporting Radio Pundit M: 'I was actually stood down but the tunnel at the end of the game and there was a lot of the verbals going on. I think one of the problems that's beginning to emerge here is Pointeso being perceived through the media as these hi arty types, which suffice to say is now spilling out onto the pitch. I remember back in the Red Star 1990 winning season that they were also seen in a very similar way to how Pointeso are marketed now. I think the reds players would do well in checking out the history of their own club.'... Sporting Radio phone in, Delta supporter: 'The gaffer need to get down the road! Look, this is a team with history - the only side to have ever won it three times in a row and it's all going down the pan. What excuse will the board come up with next? The proof is that we've just been hammered by those gloating Yoppites and we're bottom of the league. Get the gaffer out...now!'... Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 [18 July 2011] http://www.a-n.co.uk/artists_talking/projects/single/548101 Sporting League: Game 7 Scores Tranquilayers increased their lead at the top of the table to four points. Trq boss: 'Drakens caused us a few problems early on in the game and missed a couple of sitters. I was pleased the way our younger players stepped up and bagged a couple of goals. It's good to see our players with smiles on their faces, it's the positive attitude that's giving us the extra point at the moment.' Universo leap-frogged the Athleticans in the Erozna sponsored exhibition match of the month. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'Aye, yeah, I enjoyed that one. Those Erozna exhibition events are always difficult to get tickets for, but I was up there in the press box with me champers and caviar. It's good for the networking opportunities as well...had a good chat with the chief exec of The Sporting League.' Pundit Y: 'Do you ever get to see any of the matches?' Pundit X: 'Don't be cheeky. Nah, I didn't think it was a classic by any means, but I'm takin' another look at Universo...it could be their year, I'm poppin' to the bookies on Mezmola street after the show - fancy comin' down?' Pundit Y: 'Look, last time I went to the bookies with you I ended up skint for a month!' Bayerns used the strength of their newly toughened midfield to overpower a meek Yop Lane set up by two goals to nil. The Metronova boss was at it again complaining about the music down at Pointeso after their surprise two - one away win. 'The music...it kills me man! Why do Pointeso seem to be above the law eh? I wouldn't mind if it was more of my kind of music but come on all those computer bleeps were doin' me garden shed in! Mind you, a two - one win was well earned for us in spite of the din.'... Pointeso boss: 'The sponsorship deal is fantastic news for our development plan. Now we need to push on and get the results. I'm looking at adding a few new players before the transfer wiindow closes so watch this space y'all.' Bayerns well and truly ended their stuttering start to the season with a confident win over Chamber Athlete...Sporting Radio pundit Y: 'I was pretty impressed with Lunderbach earlier. They're on of those teams that I feel should be having more success than they've been having for the past ten years or so. I don't know why they ditched their youth policy from the 1997 - 98 season. That was probably the best team never to have won the Sporting League.'... Sporting radio Pundit X: ' 'That was like bathing in the good old days of the 80's when the two clubs dominated early proceedings in The Sporting League. I'm lookin' at the youth policies the two ol' big guns have at the mo' and have gotta say that we could be havin' ourselves a bit of an 80's revival. That game was something else - you had the strength and resilience of Bayerns versus the pin point passing from Tranquilayers, Classic stuff.' Novia got their tactics right in the chess-like match against Athletico with a one goal to nil home victory. Novia boss:'We were too clever for them at the end of the day. I don't think the Athleticans will get anywhere close this season if I'm being honest - their board have sold off most of the reserves. It's a bit of a sad state for their supporters. I reckon we'll be transforming into a bigger club over the next few seasons. I'm off to the beach now to catch meeself a few rays and hit the surf.'... Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'I can't believe that Delta won their titles from 2001-03. I'm not sure the managers have gotten the board room support over recent seasons. I mean lets face it, they got a lucky penalty against Bombaya today - turgid stuff.'  ... Sporting Radio Pundit Y: 'The Universo no 1 striker scored an absolute beauty and that proved to be the difference between the teams. The Universo had the ball, they kept posession and played very well, very well. I mean the passing, the pass range was pin point, pin point from deep. This side can really play, their no 2 player, the way this one plays, they've never had a player like it...a really skillful player...that goal scored out there today was a classic footballing goal. I can only see this side getting better and better and better.' Champions Novia won against their yellow rivals Yop Lane with a solitary goal scored by their super sub separating the sides in an ill tempered duel...Pointeso continued their mini revival after a poor start to the season with a two goals to one victory over Colne...Delta had their second game in a row without defeat as they held Red Star to a nil - nil draw.... More rumours surfaced from the depths of Sporting City's Halidom centre with suggestions that the league may well be retired in the 2011 -2012 season... Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'Well that's all we need innit? I've just put myself a retirement mortgage on a nice little cottage down on the Tranquilayers coast...what will we do if what the toffs are sayin' is true?'... Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'Looking around the ground today on my monitors, I have to say that Bayerns are transformed ever since their chairpersons missive. I really thought that they looked like they have got themselves back on track. My main concern is that there isn't too much cover when their big guns pick up injuries.'... Tranquilayers supporter...'When was the last time us and Bayerns were in the top three at this point in the season? There's no way our players will let them overtake us now.' Avante garde Pointeso moved five points clear of their nearest rivals with an accomplished performance against Green Tree.  ... I was in the bookies the other day and overheard a couple of Universo supporters talking about putting their factory wages on their team going the season without defeat. It's really got me thinkin' now.' Pundit Y: 'Nah, they'll come unstuck at some point. If you're looking at the best team on paper, it's gotta be Tranquilayers who are having a reformation of sorts...' Pundit X: Seriously mate, you should come with me to a Universo game, there's a real buzz all around the place, even when they play away from home. You spend too much of your time hangin' out in the cool Pointeso bars watchin' the big screens. Get real son, the young hipsters are callin' you grandaddy. I'll buy you the pipe and slippers for your next birthday...waddya say kidda?' Meanwhile... Bayerns put in an almost watertight shift against Sporting Athlete as they recorded a three goals to one away win...Athletico were one nil winners against Pointeso. Athletico boss:'Can't say I'm happy with our performance. Look, yeee, a win is a win but those Pointeso kids all looked liked they were carrying hangovers which I found rather disrespectful. We all know that it's the up and coming place to be now, but their players have got all the priorities wrong...I'm sure their gaffer would agree with me on that one.'... Novia chief exec: 'I don't know why they feel the need to demonstrate at our ground - we don't have anything to do with the deforestation, I mean the woods must be twenty miles away from here.' Pointeso beat Pacifica prior the the opening of their latest arts venture in which three thousand of their hipster supporters took part in a mass performance art programme titled Network 78. Pointeso arts correspondent: 'We're into the values of self-hood and how we can market our agency throughout the Sporting region as a whole. You must realise that we're post and pre relationale nowadays. It's not just about dialogicale connexiownes.'... Sporting Radio pundit X: 'Well, I kept expecting to see one of those players out there to hit the back of the net but it wasn't to be. It was a match that had it all - bar a goal. I'm looking at the league table now and see that Universo have only conceded seven goals in nineteen games. They seem to have tightened things up a lot at the back, but they need to be wary about sacrificing their forward line in the process. The stats show that the Bayerns had twenty two shots on goal compared to just three for Universo. In saying that, none of the Bayerns chances were clear cut apart from the embarrassing hoof in the dying seconds from their top striker.' Universo Collunteen put on an exhibition performance as they beat champions Novia by two goals to nil. Novia supporter on Sporting Radio phone in: We didn't seem able to take the control or initiative out there. That performance was the worst I've witnessed from us for about two years. I mean, I'd rather us lose by five goals through effort that being put through that. We need to win our last thirteen games now...' Universo Collunteen  recovered from their Lunderbach upset after winning one - nil in the potential banana skin against Green Tree...'Pundit X: It was just old fashioned fun wasn't it eh? I thought all the old pubs around the Universo ground had gone all upmarket but the ol' workers arms is still there, we had a few jars jus' like the good ol' days.' Pundit Y: 'You liked the ol' one arm bandits though. Those Universo supporters have got a good mix haven't they? Bayerns boss: We played to our strengths today. Prior to us going into this game i warned our players and back room staff that the Yoppites will ask questions of any team, so I was pleased with the response. We put the ball in the box and got ourselves a bit of a ricochet for the first and that set us on our way. The second, well that should be up for the goal of the season.' The Universo defence seemed to be at sixes and sevens against the Athleticans. Universo boss: 'We were lucky out there today. It's always going to be a tough ask to come away from Athletico stadium with all the points in the bag. Their front line missed about three sitters - so how we avoided defeat remains something of a mystery to me.' Tranquilayers failed to take advantage of the Universo result as they were held to a two - two draw against relegation battlers Drakens. Drakens boss: 'Bloody jumped up lot are the Trankies. You won't see any silver spoons in our ground that's for sure. They went two - nil up at half time and thought we'd rolled over. I'm excited about the run-in and hope we can go that extra yard this time around.' Olby still found themselves within spitting distance of the relegation zone as cool kids Pointeso looked as though their recent nightlfe  ban seemed to pay dividends to an increasingly frustrated fanbase. For the last few years the press have been talking about Colne goin' down, Colne resigning from the League, but they've got some experience down there.'... Universo boss: 'Yeah it was close but we produced the goals when it mattered - so I can't ask for much more. Look, games against the basement clubs at this stage of the season will always be tough as they're fighting for survival. We're still in the race.' Athletico were involved in an ill tempered affair against their lowly neighbours Chamber Athlete as the ref produced a series of yellow cards before sending off the Chamber Athlete no2 defender. Tranquilayers dented the hopes of a Green Tree top seven finish with a two goals to nil win. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'I don't understand why the woods-folks no 1 player didn't come on until the 80th minute. I heard somewhere that they're going to have to offload most of their squad over the summer to balance the ol' books - a bloody shame if you ask me, yeah, a bloody shame.'... Bayerns boss: 'We picked up a couple of knocks out there today. We've got a couple of players in for scans so we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.' Universo maintained their record breaking season with only one defeat all season. They appeared to move up another gear to flatten Metronova by five goals to nil. Sporting Radio Pundit X:' I think the Metronova players made fools of themselves to be honest. There was a lot of hot air coming from them over the week. all the yapping about the Universo defence looking weak...a load of old tosh. Metronova are almost safe, but on that performance, boy it's gonna be  a sad day when Bombaya fall through the trap door.'  Tranquilayers kept in touch with an away win over an Athletico side who looked simply abject. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'The Athletico boss should resign now. That's eight defeats this season...it's not good enough. there are a lot of angry Athletican supporters now. I just didn't see any fight against a weakened Tranquilayers. Some thing has gotta give and they need a marquee signing over the summer.'... Sporting Radio Pundit X: ' I can't wait for the Universo and Bayerns match. I think Novia relinquished their crown too easily, but these top three sides. Phew!' Pundit Y: 'I've already got me seats booked up in the Gods of Universo stadium...there's gonna be a lot of nerves about the place, I can tell ya.' Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'Did I dream that one? sometimes I wonder ye kno'...is this reality? You should have been there when the final whistle went...I've never seen celebrations like it in my life. I mean, a year ago to this very day the Universo were trudging off after being pipped to the post by Novia. I'm lost for words...I mean they went the whole season with only one defeat. I think the Universo campaign has defied Sporting League gravity laws.' Tranquilayers secured third position after an assured performance against Chamber Athlete.Tranquilayers boss: 'It's kind of painful to have ninety two points and still not have the elusive trophy. We'll regroup over the summer, my scouts have got an eye on a few additions to the squad, but my congrats must go out to Universo...we'll have a socialist league next year...you won't be surprised to learn that it's not my cup of tea! As for Bombaya going out of the league, well it didn't do Universo any harm in the end did it? Ninth position last year was way under par. I haven't done too much work in the transfer market over the summer because I believe the existing squed can take us to the next level with a top five finish.' Unfortunately for Pointeso, the boss had to endure a dire performance against Sporting Athlete as they went down by two goals to one in their curtain raiser. Champions Universo were held to a draw against transitional giants Athletico...Last years third placed squad Tranquilayers came back from a goal to sink Drakens by two goals to one...Sporting Radio Punit X: 'I thought a lot of the sides looked lean and mean after the break. Tranquilayers have got a bit of urgency about them when the ol' chips are down, so I can see them being in contention again.' Pundit Y: 'So, did ya enjoy the Tranquilayers golf courses over the summer?' 'Oh aye, always get meself round the ol' eighteen holes and bottles of champers to boot...don't you worry about me sonny.' Punit Y: 'Well I was walkin' to the studio this morning through Sporting City zone 34.5 and, I don't know, you get a real sense about everyone you meet that the season has started...I get a feelin' that Pointeso might cause a few surprises this year.' Pundit X: 'The boss needs to get shut, trust me. I would have cleared the decks and started again. Too much ill discipline for my liking...'... Our players responded well in the second half. I like the look of some of the Indentine players and will make a few enquiries before the transfer window closes.'  Champions Universo were still without a win after being held to another draw, this time against Novia. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'I was in the Universo bar at the end of the game and was surprised by the amount of executives swanning about the joint. I don't know, they claim to be the side of the workers and one championship win and the're cosying up to big business.' Pundit Y: ' Nah, I think the ol' Universo will continue to fly the red flag...look it's The Sporting League mate, you need to accept the fact that you can't live without the suits in this game.'  ... Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I think they’re (Sporting Athlete) are gonna be pleased with that result. Granted, it’s only three games into the season, but ye know…history is history. I reckon the boardroom staff will be poppin’ the ol’ bubbly as we speak.’   Tranquilayers put in a complaint to The Sporting League patrol panel after the Red Star forward allegedly lashed out at the Tranquilayers players in a post match bust up in the tunnel. Tranquilizers fan calling in to Sporting Radio: ‘It was embarrassing to see. I think that player has kicked their last Sporting League football…we need to stamp out this kind of ill discipline sooner rather than later. Pundit Y: ‘I don’t think the Tranquilayers players are exactly shining lights themselves. I know what its like out there in the war zone. Let’s just say wicked whispers often lead to these kinds of incidences. I like the Red Star set up myself…you knows you’re always gonna get a tough game down there. I think the Tranquilayers players get a bit above themselves…’ Pundit Y: ‘Look, I think the supporter had a good point to be honest – we just can’t have players wildly lashing out at the end of the game…I hope The panel throw the book at Red Star big time for this debacle.’   Saints also maintained their one hundred percent despite getting two players sent off for dissent as they held on to a three goals to two lead over Lunderbach.   Paytonia Consortia revealed that they’d purchased a thirty percent stake in new side Haaveno on the back of a one goal to nil shock win over Athletico.      ... Pointeso boss: ‘What do you want me to say? Tell ya what…read my mind because if I speak it my bank balance will take a hit from the Sporting council. One win in four isn’t cuttin’ it at the mo’…we’ve gotta improve otherwise I’ll be walking the plank over Pointeso bay like my predecessor. We aim big at this club and are aiming for a top three finish. Boy oh boy we’re makin’ hard work of this, I just can’t understand why our board are keepin’ silent at the moment. Tell ya what thio, they won’t be sittin’ up there grinnin’ that’s for sure and I don’t blame ‘em.’   Athletico suffered at the hands of a three goals to one defeat to Saints…Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I  know that I keep harping on about this but the Athleticans needed a marquee signing over the summer which never happened. I’ve got my sources and know that they’re independent status give ‘em money to burn when times are tough. So I don’t know why they aren’t thriving in the current Sporting recession.’   Tranquilayers slipped back a couple of places as they could only manage a two – two draw against thirteenth placed Metronova…   Novia boss on Sporting Radio: ‘I like the look of the Haaveno side and felt we got lucky with a two – one win. ‘   Champions Universo Collunteen were still without a win as they slipped up at home to leaders Sporting Athlete. Universo boss: ‘I’ve heard that the posh kids Tranquilayers were shoutin’ the odds about us after they got wind of our below par performance. The thing is, they’re sitting in their penthouses up in the Hilti forest with cash to burn whilst we’re the unlikely Sporting League champions eating pot noodles whilst they chomp on the ol’ caviar….makes ye sick dunnit eh?’   Pundit X: Well I’m rather partial to the ol’ cavvy, and um yes, pot noodles do make me feel a bit queasy.’  ... Ultimately from a financial perspective I can’t see Sporting Athlete keeping this run going. I had a long look at Green Tree as well – I just can’t believe they had a top seven finish last season after that display.’   Novia and Saints held onto their unbeaten runs in a high tempo match which resulted in a two – two draw. Novia boss: ‘The Saints are playing some good stuff at the moment but we were under strength. I think Saints will be happy with a top ten finish at the very best this season to be fair.’   Bayerns edged closer to the summit with a one goal to nil win over a jaded Haaveno. Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I was out on the ol’ golf course over the weekend with the Bayerns chief executive. He looked tanned with a million dollar smile – lovely guy. I think I heard somewhere on the grapevine that Mellsgerz Consortia could be buying a ten percent stake in their shares. I’m tempted to throw a few pennies towards the Bayerns metropolitan myself. As for the match, well did you see the bayerns goal? What a bloody pearler.’   Pundit Y: Just out of curiosity…isn’t there an exec that you haven’t had a round of crazy golf with? I sometimes have my suspicions that you spend your evenings off with the microwave meal for one.’   Athletico squandered their goal to nil lead over Drakens. Athletican supporter: ‘I nearly didn’t bother travelling to the game which would have been the first away fixture that I’d ever missed. I wish I’d stayed at home now. The supporters club has been on at the board for, what, five years now. We need to give up our unique independent status if we’re gonna have any sort of future in this league. Its impossible trying to tell ‘em though.’   Champions Universo recorded their first win of the season with a three goals to two score line against Delta.  ... Bayerns boss: ‘We’ve got a fantastic forward line. I had to play about with our positions because the defenders had pretty much shut up shop. We’re fortunate enough to have had a striker who could pick their defensive locks. Credit to Saints for holding on for such a long time. We picked up a few knocks out there today.’   Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I nearly choked on my salmon sarnies up in the Lunderbach executive suite. I know I was gluggin’ the champers, but I could swear that all three of the Tranquilayers goals were offside.’   Universo Collunteen notched up their second win of the season against a tricky Yop Lane. The supporters pay out their hard earned dough to watch a mud pie contest. Come on, wake up, get real and smell the coffee buster!'   Tranquilayers put further pressure on the Athleticans with a one - nil victory. Tranquilayers coach: 'I'm really proud of that performance. I'll admit that even I thought it was going to be a draw but we seem to have something else about us this season.'     Pointeso and Universo cancelled each other out and virtually ended one another's championship chances after only seven games. Smeedom of peach more like!’   Bayerns eased to a two goals to nil victory over fifteenth placed Pacifica. Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I don’t think the Bayerns players broke into a sweat out there. I felt for the Pacifica boss really. I mean, they had so much potential when they first entered the league and now they’re a side in decline. Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I was thinkin’ that that game had a draw written all over it. You should’ve checked on the Tranquilayers boss’s sconch at the end of the game…looked well hissed off mate.’ I asked me ol’ mate in downtown Sporting City in one of the bookies on Hutoni strip how he’d priced up the match before kick off. You’ll be intrigued to learn (well I was anyway) that all bets on the draw were closed twelve hours prior to kick off. Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I was in the bar across the road from Bayerns stadium after the game and a load of these young Pointeso supporters came in. I don’t know, they make me feel so old. What was all that stuff they were playing on the juke box? As I said, I think it’s all about surface with that lot. I mean, yeah, it’s great to have a bit of fun but when you see the young Pointeso chairperson in the middle of them – well who am I to say?’   Pundit Y: ‘You need to move with the times. I bet you’ve got loads of clothes that would look cool in the depths of your closet!’   Pundit X: ‘What exactly do you get paid to do?’   Tranquilayers extended the gap at the top to six points with a two goals to one away win over Saints.   Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘It’s lookin’ more and more like an early taxi for the Lunderbach boss as his side was turned over by champions Universo Collunteen. I just don’t get it, the tactics were well out. I’m appealing to the lunderbach board to get shut and I’ll keep ‘em up till the end of the season. It’s breakin’ my poor heart at the moment.’          ... Sporting Radio Pundit L: ‘It was pretty even Steven throughout a game that surely spelled the end of any hopes of a Universo challenge. Surely there will come a time when the Athleticans will surely relinquish their independent status?’   Bayerns made it reality checkpoint time for Chamber Athlete with a three goals to one away win. Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘Bayerns were way too strong for ‘em. I thought the Chamber boss was a bit dramatic in the post match analysis after a rare win over Athletico. I just don’t understand why he decided to deride us within the press. He had a great chance to enjoy the moment. In fact, I read a piece in The Sporting Times where he had a bit of a dig at me. I’m not sure whether he realises that we’re only here once…anyway.’   Pundit Y: ‘I get the feeling that you don’t get on then? (Studio laughter).   Pundit X: ‘Are you still here? I’d really like to know what’s in your job description.’   Pundit Y: ‘Oh, I don’t think I mentioned that I got the controller job next season – I was out on the ol’ Pointeso tiles last night to celebrate.’   Yop Lane put two goals past Delta leaving their opposition only three points outside of the relegation zone.   Tranquilayers made it twenty games without defeat as they won by a goal to nil over troubled Drakens.    ... I look back to when we were just like Pointeso, young, strong and full of vitality. I think that game will strike a chord with all our supporters. It was the game where Pointeso set the blueprint for the future. I think that was the best I’ve ever seen a side play in Sporting football – that includes all of our great sides in the past.   Veenok have announced that they will attempt a renewed bid for control of Sporting Athlete...  ... Bayerns boss: ‘Well that keeps us hanging onto the coat tails of Tranquilayers. It was a professional performance from our second string squad.’   Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I was outside the Universo ground at the end of the match. There was a lot of trouble, coins being thrown, I could literally taste spray paint in the air. I don’t care what’s changed regarding the Universo culture over the years but there is still a violent undercurrent once you go down the back streets surrounding the stadium…scary stuff.’   Novia turned the leaves brown at Green Tree with a four goals to nil away win in what was a truly cracking game.’    ... Metronova boss: ‘Yeah, we put in a good shift today. We’ve been studying the Tranquilayers videos and have noticed their weakness on the left hand side. I can’t think of a side with a strong defence in the league this season…’   Bayerns took advantage of the leaders slip up with a three – nil will over woods folk Green Tree.   Sporting Radio Pundit X: ‘I heard a lot of stuff coming from the woods suggesting that Green Tree would stifle Bayerns but they just didn’t turn up for work. I think the problem with Green Tree was that they’d replaced their traditional man to man marking for the ol’ zonal checking. The Bayerns forwards had easy pickings…’   Athletico maintained their good form with a two goals to one win over Saints that moved them into the top three.   Novia dished out their biggest win of the season against a deflated Haaveno side. Haaveno boss: ‘We conceded too many stupid goals, I thought the man marking would’ve helped against their strike force but it wasn’t to be. We need to stay focused now if we want to hold onto our place in the league next season. We have had a lot of opportunities in the past without executing the final ball and for me that has happened in a lot of games. It goes without saying that wasn’t the case today.’      ... Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'Haaveno had a point to prove after their dismal display against Novia and as a result gave the bayerns a run for their money. To be honest though, I got the feeling that Bayerns could have stepped up a gear at any point. I think it was a bit of an energy conservation exercise on their part.' Champions Universo moved up into the big bucks position of third with a two goals to nil win over Delta. Universo boss: 'I heard that the Delta board haven't paid their players for a month now. I've also heard that their shares have gone through the roof - so I'll be keeping my eyes open at the next Delta champagne bash for any further signs of hardship. I've already made it public that if the Delta supporters club need any support organising demonstrations - they've got our full support.' Saints safety looked pretty much assured despite squandering a goal to nil lead with some sloppy defending. Saints gaffer: 'We got caught at a corner and against a quality team like that you get punished. I'm still proud of the way we maintained our resolve for the rest of the match though...' ... They kind of look like they’re on the edge of collapse but are somehow holding it together. I think their midfield has weakened over the past few games and the away match against Athletico will give us a bit of a clue as to the extent of their decline.’   Bayerns were involved in a see-saw match against Saints – eventually emerging from the amiptheatre as five goals to two victors. Bayerns boss: ‘Our defence was really poor today – it’s just as though all those training sessions were for nothing.’ However, I’ve got to sing the praises of our young strike force as we’re now the top scorers in the league.’   Pointeso continued their strong form with a five goals to nil win over Indentine. Pointeso boss: ‘I was getting fed up with reading all that nonsense in the press about our players partying antics before big matches – that’s why I banned all nights out for the rest of the season. They’ve gotta be disciplined. They were reprimanded for their behaviour and were left in no doubt that we’re a club on the up and if they’re not happy with the situation…there’s always the Colbreck League.’   The Sporting League council has authorised the use of additional funds to help prevent the Universo dollar strengthening further, as figures show a slowdown in the growth of industrial output.    ... Tranquilayers boss: 'I asked for one hundred percent out there and got one hundred and ten from the players. It was always gonna be a bit of a banana skin going over to Athletico stadium. I would've been happy with the draw but our second goal was something to behold.' Eternal beautiful slackers Novia moved back into the lucrative third position with a two goals to nil win over Pacifica. Novia boss: 'I had a great feeling when I woke up this morning. I travelled to the ground on my dusty skateboard...and there was just...I don't know...there was a feeling in the air. I'm lookin' forward to playin' at the Pacifica ground next season as the surfin' waves are gonna be the highest since the summer of 1988. Time to dust down the ol' surfboard methinks.' Bayerns showed little mercy as they plunged Drakens into deeper trouble with a one - nil victory. Olby trading standards (OTS) received payments from online loans broker MMGT in exchange for regulatory advice. The Sporting League confirmed that it was aware of the situation and commenced preliminary investigations.... Red Star gaffer: 'The financial situation is sucking the life out of our club. It would seem that the big money goes to the big teams. I'm forever trying to explain to our loyal supporters that we've got no chance of winning another title under the current Sporting regime. 1990 - our championship winning season ain't gonna happen again...it's a wall of fire.'  The reds meanwhile took some time away from the gloomy outlook of the boss with a goal to nil win over relegated Indentine. Tranquilayers conceded a late  at home to Novia to draw one - one. The result meant that their lead at the summit was cut to just a single point. Bayerns enjoyed their trip to the Pacifica coast with a three goals to one victory. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'Bayerns look as though they've stepped up a gear. I think it's going to get very interesting as we hit the business end of the season.'  ... Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'We didn't see the best of the top two with that performance. I think Tranquilayers possibly shaded it and will come away from the game the happier of the two sides.' There were a series of arrests as Universo defeated Indentine by a goal to nil. A Sporting police spokesman quoted by Millington Consortia said that the arrests came "after multiple warnings by police were given to both sets of supporters to stay within their designated zones within the stadium." The Sporting League will fine both clubs and stated that all future Indentine versus Universo games will take place behind closed doors. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'I've been sayin' it all season that there is a bit of a bitter streak creeping back into the Universo following like the old days. I think that they sweep it all under the carpet for marketing purposes but you can't go about gilding a violent lily.'... Pundit L: 'I've never understood why Metro never seem to get it together. It's a great set up over there, a fantastic city, but the football just ain't happenin'. I think it's a curious place as most of the city is underground. I'm off to zone 34S at the weekend as I picked up a couple of tickets to the theatre.' Athletico put a goal past Lunderbach with a minute to spare to sustain their challenge for the elusive third position in the table. Athletico boss: 'I had a bit of a sixth sense about this game. We got ourselves a good break away from home which is keepin' us in contention for the number three position.' Tranquilayers scored early against Sporting Athlete to hold onto their slender one point advantage at the top of the tree. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'It looks like Tranquilayers are edging past opponents at the moment - doing just enough to hold onto their slender lead. I don't know about them really. It may sound a bit glib, but it's true that we're getting to the business end of the season and it's all Tranquilayers and Bayerns.' Relegation fodder Drakens still required a victory to begin to put on the pressure on their nearest rivals Green Tree after letting two goals in against Yop Lane. Yoppite gaffer: 'I though that we did ourselves some justice out there in the rain and showed our class when it mattered. OK, a top three finish is beyond us now, but the top six is all to play for. It was good to see how fresh our guys looked after the match.'  ... Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'That sending off changed the match. I think it was a good call from th ref, but I still believe that Tranquilayers got off lightly out there coz Delta were all over 'em prior to that dubious call. I was a bit disappointed with another section of the delta support throwing coins onto the pitch. It was raining coins at on stage. When they get the CCTV footage they need a few life bans and a couple of weeks in the slammer ...out of order all day long.' Bayerns maintained their fight with a two - nil win over a tricky Olby. Bayerns boss: 'Yeah, it was a good win but we've lost a couple of players for the Lunderbach game. It's going to be a pivotal match for us and I feel the officials didn't do an effective job in the protection of our younger players. As usual, I can't say too much because the Sporting top dogs will dish out the fines to nrecoup some of the cash they squandered in the recession.' Pointeso held onto third place with a four goals to nil win over Drakens. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'I really like the look of Pointeso now. If you have a look at the table you'll see that they're the top scorers with seventy one goals to the good. I think the ol' pointers will be good value for a title next season. They're a good 9-4 shot for season 2011-2012.' Haaveno have officially confirmed that they'll be moving to Sporting City zone L next season.... Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'I think that the Yoppites tried to get a Tranquilayers far too quickly. Look, they've got to get some younger players in now. Forget about the race to finish in the top six. They looked shot after just twenty minutes. Someone once said that you can't win anything with kids...well the same could be said for ageing players.' Bayerns won by four goals to nil despite fielding a second string squad. Bayerns boss: 'We needed people to step up to the plate   I wasn't let down thats for sure...' Pointeso maintained their recent goal fest after putting four past Pacifica. Pointeso boss: 'I believe that we're gonna challenge for he title next season. I'm pleased to see that we're also top of the recent form pile. If we can get past the eighty point mark at game thirty eight then I'll agree that it's been job done. OK, I accept that we're by no means the finished article but lets judge after the last game.'... Our players have shown a lot of discipline in recent games...we've given ourselves a lot of credit with that performance.' Chamber boss: 'I think the ol' Layers are gunner stroll it. We couldn't get anywhere near 'em...chasin' shadows.' Novia and Bayerns finished two goals each in a game which saw the Novia control for long spells. Novia boss: 'I think we were always going to throw a spanner in the works out there today. However, we really need to stay focused if we want to have any chance of finishing in the top three or four.' Universo Collunteen held onto the lucrative third position with a one - nil win at home to Drakens. Sporting Radio Pundit X: 'Well, I think Universo are going to find it tough handing over their beloved crown, but they're certainly looking odds on for the third place. I think they could also qualify for the Triangular Pitch championships if they hang on in there.' Pundit Y: 'I think the Triangular Pitch qualifiers should still go to the top two. Universo Collunteen came back from two goals behind to grab a three goals to two win over Pacifica. The Athletico boss threatened to walk at the end of the season after his side won by four goals to one away to Delta. Sporting Radio Pundit S: 'Well I'm down here at the Universo stadium and watching as the grounds people set up the post match sprinkling system. Boy oh boy, that was some game out there. It was a bit odd when the Tranquilayers no.2 player kissed his badge at the Universo end. Yeah...honest he kissed the badge. The Tranquilayers boss literally ran the length of the pitch to pull him off. I think it's possible that the bosses actions may well have saved a full scale riot from taking place out there. Bayerns took advantage of the draw between the top two with a one goal to nil win over Sporting Athlete. Pointeso won by three goals to one away to Lunderbach. Pointeso gaffer: 'We'd qualify for the summer Triangular Pitch Tournament but I've gotta go with the old cliche of one game at a time.' I was quite surprised to see Pointeso employing the long ball tactic but it worked really well against the Athleticans.' Bayerns won three goals to one against Delta. Bayerns made easy work of their opponents  Yop Lane to take the title into the last game of the season. Bayerns supporter: 'We played well today, but I've always said that we needed to take our chances in those games against Tranquilayers. It's going to be a nervy final day. I'm just hoping that Saints can do us a favour and Pointeso are having a rare off day.' I'm watchin' now as the Tranquilayers pitch fill up with their usually reserved conservative support base. Fireworks, euphoria - i don't think the supporters can believe that they're champions after sixteen long years.' Bayerns were snuffed out at the death against Pointeso in a match that had the past versus the future written all over it. Let’s be honest though…that was a bit of a yawnfest from the champions out there today. It was second gear stuff out there.’   Delta winning at Metronova by four goals to one was enough to put them at the top after the first day. Delta boss: ‘We put in a shift today against a resilient Metro, but we put a lot of pressure on their back four which paid dividends for us at the business end of the game.’   Universo Collunteen won the match of the day with a two goals to nil win over Novia. Universo gaffer: ‘I’m pleased with that one…it just kinda eases us into the season. I felt that we underachieved last season so I went into the summer transfer market and got myself a few bargains in the charity shops.’   Pointeso awoke from their cool summer slumber to win by two goals to one away to Bolsov.  Bolsov boss: ‘Pointeso are the team of the moment and we nearly stole a point at the death. ‘ Officials in Sporting City northern quarter say candidate 203 has won the state's primary caucuses in the race for the Sporting City Zone 51 control nomination with 24% of the vote.
