this is what creates every adventure

By: Rowan Lear

this is what creates every adventure combines research, writing and experiment in a practice that has everything to do with photography.

The project utilizes the found photograph and philosphical concepts to explore our relationships with photography and the world.

This blog will document the development of thoughts and ideas as I embark on an MA Photography: Contemporary Dialogues.

I also blog my research, writing and found photographs at rowanlear.co.uk

# 1 [23 October 2011]

Time to introduce myself and the project.

this is what creates every adventure is something that started during the end of my undergraduate degree in Edinburgh. Initially, it focussed on the found photograph and what that object could elucidate about the complex relationship between memory and photography. My work resulted in various pieces, including installation, textile, writing, audio and archives - I'll attach some photos of this work.

I made some work with the Screen Banditas (http://www.screenbandita.org/#!__found-footage/a-bit-older) and was picked for the Futureproof exhibition at Streetlevel Photoworks (http://www.streetlevelphotoworks.org).

I then took a year out: working, teaching, filmmaking, researching and generally being a bit skint and unfocussed.

Now, 2011, after lots of agonizing and consideration, I've relocated to South Wales, and I'm embarking on a 2 year MA in Photography: Contemporary Dialogues. The course is pretty special in its interdisciplinary and experimental nature, and its focus on the process, not the outcome. More here, if you're interested (http://www.smu.ac.uk/images/stories/documents/4deg...

My intention? To further develop my 'practice', find a new way to speak about photography, learn more, be challenged, and create my own space in  the world.
