'Rebecca McKnight'. We pitched our tent next to a reservoir which was great until some people doing night navigation crashed into our tent in the middle of the night and scared me to death!

'Rebecca McKnight'. We met on the Fri night and then set off walking to find a good spot to camp. We found the least swampy and bumpy place available and pitched up. Then the wind started! I've never been led inside a tent whilst the roof is being blown onto my face! Lets just say we didn't get much sleep :+)

'Rebecca McKnight'. When the sun came up we could see our camp spot and it was stunning to wake up to. Although it wasn't raining then, the clouds were brewing, ready to cause trouble for the rest of the day!

'Rebecca McKnight'. My team leader Mark gave us bacon butties half way up this mountain face he made us climb. Never had a fry up in a cave before, it was very nice actually, I'd recommend it! :)
'Rebecca McKnight'. The climb we did with our heavy sacks on no less! It wasn't easy to be honest and there was a scary overhang bit which I found really difficult. But I did it, but wasn't sure I was gonna make iT! :( but I live to tell the tale ;)
'Rebecca McKnight'. We did lots more walking after the climb, my legs were feeling it coming down the final mountain!

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN CLIMATE CHANGE TALKS
UN climate change talks are excluding communities who will suffer the most from changing weather patterns, according to a report released today.
The report, released by Minority Rights Group International (MRG), says that the voice of indigenous and minority communities must be formally recognised in the climate change talks that begin in Poznan, Poland, on December 1.
MRG said that "time is running out" for indigenous communities to get countries to acknowledge that they should be included in the Copenhagen negotiations in 2009 when a new climate deal is expected to be agreed.
Unlike the international Convention on Biodiversity (CBD), the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the multilateral environmental treaty signed by 192 states, does not mention the impact of climate change on indigenous or minority communities.
Indigenous people around the world are often at the frontline of climate change, living in ecologically sensitive areas and reliant on natural resource for survival. Campaigners say that the impact of climate change already threatens many of these communities.
Arctic Inuit people have seen their land disappear as the polar ice caps melt, farmers in East Africa are facing severe food shortages due to persistent drought, and Miskito tribes in Nicaragua are seeing their livelihoods threatened by unseasonal flooding.

I've been a bit quiet on the blog front for a little while, sorry about that!
I've still been training with Dave twice a week (strength and cardio) and also doing my own bits in between: mainly running and climbing. I've not managed to go surfing recently, which depresses me greatly :( but still, life must go on... yes,., it must. I'm hoping to get a surf in before Christmas though, so that will be nice :)
Training with Dave has really helped me with my fitness. I've now done two training weekends with my new teammates and felt in a really good place with my strength and all that.
Obviously being fitter helps you enjoy the experience loads more, because it's not so much of a struggle when you're climbing up mountains with a heavy sack on and you don't get as mentally tired so you have more energy for chatting and having a laugh. I'll write an account of what we did on the team training next so you can get an idea of what we did. I have some phone photos too.

TH'ARCTIC ARTICLE ON SALFORD ONLINE - link below
It's funny reading some of these articles as there's always a few things not right in them... such as, I will not be pulling my pulk for 20 hours a day (that would be slightly mad!:) And I will be taking a rifle,., not might be :) Also, of course I go hiking and rock climbing... and believe it or not, I'm actually quite an outdoorsey person :0) lol He makes it sound like I just eat chips and gravy in front of the telly watching nature programmes :0) heheh
And lastly if I'm not prepared and ready for a polar expedition by the time I go then surely I never will be! Interesting article though, so cheers Tom!
