My Fine Art degree project is based predominantly on cave paintings and carvings. I am painting on large canvases, using oil and acrylic paint as well as oil sticks and pastels. The work is spontaneous and bodily movements are important. The work aims to bring unconcious forms into view. It is also an exercise in the imagination, as each viewer finds their own different shapes and images.

Decided to do some collage with my class today. This is my attempt/example. I like the contrast of the text and oil paint. I might try to make another more minimal piece
next time.
Some new work on paper.
Taught my first class today. Mark making using black and white charcoal and paints. It was quite nerve racking. I’m sure it will be easier next week. Its a great room to work in.

I am a painter facinated by ancient artforms and primitive cultures. This facination began whilst studying for my degree in Anthropology. I am interested in the beginings of expression and language in its pictorial form. My work is an attempt to access my unconcious mind and I create 'raw' artworks which express my internal emotions. My art practice links me into that instinctual drive for expression which began with our ancient ancestors.
