BA (Hons) Embroidery is an amazing and diverse course. It has the perfect balance of freedom and support, allowing us to stretch our wings and create, with the safety net of fellow students and tutors behind us.

Some people on my course produce work that is mainly two dimensional and stitch based , however, others create the dimensional work, video art, installations or concentrate on drawing.

# 1 [1 March 2009]

Today was meant to be a productive day, instead it has ended up being a tidying day instead (which i suppose is still productive). I always find that when I am going to get down to some critical and analytical writing, I need to tidy and clean my working space. By the time i get this done and have a good working in environment, i am too tired to do the work and postpone it! Well, that is what has happened today, however, this will set me up in a nice environment for getting it done tomorrow.

At the moment my brain feels crammed with information and is wurring away. I have been thinking about what I am going to create for a competition that I am entering, to create a two-dimensional piece for a wall space in an accountancy firm (in the offices). I am so excited to be working towards a live brief but even more scared at the idea! I have to think hard to solve the problems that are starting to occur. This is troubling me slightly, I hope that I find a solution before I have to present my proposal in two weeks time.

Alongside this I am working on some three-dimensional work. I have just had all my previous work photographed absolutely beautiful by India Hobson, a second year photography student (indiahobsonphotography.co.uk). I am so pleased with the outcome because it has really captured the effect and moods that I intended to create.

# 2 [7 March 2009]

I have collected the photographs that India took for me! they-re brilliant! I'll post some with this.

I had to do a presentation yesterday, talking about my work and how I have developed from first year until now. This really made me realise how much my work has developed and what simililarities there are from my earlier practice. The process tok a lot more work than I expected, to make a clear structure and decide what were the most relevant points.

Just been to buy some fishing wire. i'm really excited to try it out, dying it and then knitting using the domestic knitting machine. I'm looking forward to seeing the results!

I am currently in my third year at MMU (rachel-evans@hotmail.com). I am from a small town called Wareham, near Bournemouth (so quite a long way to go) and love going back their for a very welcomed break.

My work aims to draw attention to objects that are often overlooked. I aim to create beauty from the mundane, inviting the viewer to look closer and appreciate each object's exquisite qualities. I encourage the discovery of splendor in simple, everday objects.
