Grand Canyon, Malibu, USA 2009

....for me, there are photographs I take because they tell me a story, there are others which I just have to take...there are photographs I take for posterity like smiles on a beach, and there are other more obscure photographs which are trying to do something different, are trying to say something else.....all I love, but its the latter which are here...
Bec Garland
Bec Garland is an artist working in drawing, photography and performance. Recent projects have included a residency at Vermont Studio Centre, USA, The Drawbridge (a collaborative commission with artist Mike Chavez Dawson) education projects with The Lowry and associated schools, and a number of artists talks at universities and organisations in the North . Bec is Associate Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University. She is currently developing her drawing, writing and performance work.

I've been writing extracts and I've been taking photographs, the two are working wholly independantly and if I try and make a fit I'd be lying....
I'm wondering why I'm thinking to try and make a fit....
If I attempt to put words with some images it would shift a silent paradox into a nursery cliche....
I think these images are here because they only work as images....
images and a brief title so they can breathe....
