Formed in 1985 , The Sporting League has continued to thrive. Teams such as ‘Athletico’, ‘Tranquilayers’ and ‘Bayerns’ could be considered as the eternal ‘big guns’. However, smaller clubs such as 'Universo Collunteen', 'Pointeso' and 'Novia' have gained momentum in recent seasons.
This blog documents the latest news from The Sporting League which was formed in 1985.
In 2006 The Sporting League gained international recognition and was awarded prize winning status for 'The Football Art Prize' at The Lowry Arts Centre, Salford, Manchester.
The preview event was attended by some of the most prominent figures in the fields of football and culture.

Game 29
Zindustrious put the brakes on a Novia title surge as they held the yellow perils 1-1. Zindustrious boss: 'We're having a tough time in the courts off field which is why I'm so delighted with the response from the players. We've upped the training and you've witnessed the results over our last four matches. We'll never be the pretty option - that's for sure, but we had Novia hanging on for dear life out there!'
Red Star showed a high level of inventive football as they kept the Delta teams hopes of a return to form by beating them 3-2/
Olby moved to within 6 points of the leaders with a solid performance against Dons - winning 1-0.
Bayerns had one of those games where they played poorly but still managed to carve out a 1-0 victory over Green Tree.
**Sporting radio: (Athletico 2-1 Bolsov).
Pundit 1: 'Well its obvious, The Athletican no3 player went to ground for that penalty - he'd give old flipper a good run for his fins with that diving technique...'
* The Novia boss is up in the sporting dock for comments made against the hierarchy...'We've got a bunch of numb nuts at the helm, wanderin' about with suits and hefty bank balances whilst their subjects drown in the sea of greed.'
Sporting executive communications responded with a press release: 'We look into each case on an individual basis and will be meeting on Tuesday to discuss a range of issues. I will say, however, that we won't tolerate any incidence in which clubs attempt to bring our organization into disrepute.

Game 30
Novia resumed their conquest for the title with a more than comfortable victory over Lunderbach.
Sporting Radio: (pundit 3). 'Nah - I'm not 'avin that mate. You know that Lunderbach are one of the sides who'll never win this league. Listen...their best chance of doing it was back in 1997, but there just aint the resources in place for them to mount a serious challenge in the near or distant future.'
(Pundit 2): 'The same could've been said about Novia at the start of the season; you never know what can change...'end radio.
Olby maintained the pressure as they gave Green Tree the run around on a pitch that wasn't fit for a motor cross event, let alone exclusive Sporting League football.
Athletico were able to forget about their poor spell of recent form with a team building 3-0 win over Metronova.
Athletican supporter: 'Well, that was a relaxed win. I hope we can now push on in the last set of games...we've got nothing to lose now.'
Old rivals Bayerns and Tranquilayers couldn't break the deadlock and had to be content with a score draw.
Red Star came from a goal down to beat a flagging Colne 2-1 with a double from their no 1 striker, who's also moving closer to the golden boot award.

Sporting League: Game 32:
Red Star are keeping close tabs on the leaders with a 2-1 win at home to Muno...Athletico came back from 2-0 down to win against Lunderbach...Sporting Radio commentary...'Well, it's all swings and roundabouts at the moment, lots of upheaval in the leagues, massive cutbacks to the smaller clubs - it's a miracle that teams like Novia and Olby are still solvent - let alone competing for the title.

Sporting League Game 33 latest...
Bayerns effectively ended pre-season favourites Athletico's chances of the championship with an effective 2-0 win...Tranquilayers tranquilised an abject Metronova with a 1-0 win...Novia eased to a 2-0 win over 7th placed Bombaya...Sporting radio commentary...(Phone in caller): 'What I want to say is that you can see how far somebody has run, you can actually see...offside is fairly ambiguous now, but to bring in the technology now would be a mistake, 100 percent mistake.'
There is to be a fundamental restructuring of The Sporting League over the next 3 years to make an annual saving unseen in Sporting history. Anti-corporate Universo are the first team to have threatened to withdraw from the league if the Hartle Consortium are given the go ahead to take over the financial arm of Sporting City.

The Athletico boss was furious at how his side appeared to roll over against league leaders Novia. 'What was that out there? We just rolled over and buried our heads in the sand. I'll tell you one thing...none of those players out there this evening will play another game this season, I'm giving the kids a chance to prove themselves now.'
Rumour mill...Delta have confirmed that they're parting with their manager 0f 12 years at the end of the season.

It's been a fixture list brimming with injuries, namely to Novia's no1 player as they went down 2-1 at home to a bruising Dons side...Red Star narrowed the gap at the top to just 2 points after dispatching a fatigued Muno 3-0...Liver Halvers were booed and jeered as they played a defensive game against a rejuvenated Pacifica...Tranquilayers had a turgid performance against Olby as their defence suffered from the usefulness of a chocolate fireguard syndrome...Bayerns still have an outsiders chance after beating Colne 3-1...Sporting Commentary...'I thought Bayerns would've been in there right at the end, but it just wasn't to be. It's been a season of nothing to be absolutely honest with you.'

Novia and Red Star will both battle it out on the last game of the season for the title. Red Star will need to win the match, whilst a draw will be enough for Novia to capture their first Sporting League title...Bayerns are still on course for a huge bonus depending on the results between the top two on the last day of the season as they can still finish 2nd after a 1-0 win against Delta...Athletico ended their lacklustre end to the season with a 3-2 win away to Zindustrious...Athletico boss: 'Very pleased with the players response today. I'm probably going to ship out a few of the older players over the summer, so we're essentially looking at a long term rebuilding exercise.'

Novia are the champions after beating their nearest rivals Red Star comfortably on the last day of the season. Sporting radio: 'Well, Novia couldn't have wished for an easier way to get their 1st Sporting title....the celebrations will go on for a week in Novia city.'
Bolsov and Muno were relegated.
Universo Collunteen and Yop Lane have won election to the league next season.
