Formed in 1985 , The Sporting League has continued to thrive. Teams such as ‘Athletico’, ‘Tranquilayers’ and ‘Bayerns’ could be considered as the eternal ‘big guns’. However, smaller clubs such as 'Universo Collunteen', 'Pointeso' and 'Novia' have gained momentum in recent seasons.
This blog documents the latest news from The Sporting League which was formed in 1985.
In 2006 The Sporting League gained international recognition and was awarded prize winning status for 'The Football Art Prize' at The Lowry Arts Centre, Salford, Manchester.
The preview event was attended by some of the most prominent figures in the fields of football and culture.

Sporting League: Season 2007-08
Sporting Radio: 'Well it's another season where one has to blink at the sight of Colne at the top of the table after just one game...also interesting to see Novia beat a rather sluggish Chamber Athlete at Athleticas road.' The Red Star chairperson has already caused unrest throughout the supporters after stating that his team won't be in the title race this season due to budget restrictions. Bayerns celebrated the opening of their new contemporary art gallery in the city centre with an artisan performance against new kids on the block, the old revolutionaries themselves Universo Collunteen. Universo boss: 'We're made up to be back in the league and promise a series of disruptive actions this season if The Sporting League bigwigs continue to bleed the smaller clubs dry.'

Athletico moved to the top of the league with a 2-1 win over a tricky Zindustrious...Champions Novia were too strong for Bombaya with a 2-0 win. Bombaya boss...' I've had enough of those pre-madonnas at Novia. I think some of their players have gotten a bit big for their boots to be honest...I mean, they came from nothin' and now actin' all la de da!' Bayerns won 2-0 at home to Colne and have already gotten themselves critical acclaim for their new contemporary arts centre. Bayerns chairperson...' I'm hoping this latest venture sponsored by Rayinado will make our municipale centre the envy of The Sporting region.'
Yop Lane will have to pay the fine for being the 1st team to defect from the Colbreck to The Sporting league in it's 23 year history. Yop's chairperson/PR dept were unavailable for comment.

Sporting League: Game 3.
Bayerns, runners up last season seem to have had a bit of a point to prove after their 5-0 win at home to Metronona. Bayerns boss: 'I think the scoreline was flattering to to be fair, but the players held their nerve and got a well earned 3 points in the bag. We still need some investment in the youth squads if we're gonna be up there at the end of the season.' Athletico also held onto their 100 per cent start with a 1-0 win at home to champions to Novia...the Athletico governing body have turned down another request from Sporting headquarters to relinquish their independent status and join the Sporting clubs federation. Class warriors Universo are enjoying their return to sporting football with a win over Indentine. Sporting Radio: 'You know, I've gotta say that Universo played their percentages really well, but as for class warriors? Indentine would see them as champagne socialists! That Indentine no3 is a real fighter, brave as a lion...'

Sporting League: game 4
Bayerns and Athletico both held onto their 100 percent records...Red Star appeared to be reeling after their poor end to last season against Novia this time losing to Bombaya...Lunderbach admitted that they had run out of funds and were handed a loan from Universo Collunteen...Dons looked rock solid against Liver Halvers after a fine 3-1 victory...Sporting Radio: 'See I don't really understand why the Bayerns no1 wasn't sent off for that challenge. There was intent, that's for sure. Now you can't tell me if an Olby or Liver Halvers player did that they wouldn't get a 4 match ban or something?...come on get real...'

Sporting League Game 5
Bayerns extended their lead at the top of the table with a 3-1 win against a depleted Indentine. Bayerns had a major scare in the 1st 10 seconds after going a goal behind. The anxiety of the Bayerns crowd seemed to be transferred to the players for large spells of the 1st half until Bayerns no1 player scored 2 either side of half time...Red Star held Athletico to a 1-1 draw. The Athleticans seemed to set their stall out early and looked contented with a draw which was met by a chorus of boos from their supporters at the final whistle...Champions Novia won in an exciting contest against Yop Lane in an end to end match 3-2...

Sporting League: Game 6
Bayerns still have a 100 percent record as they defeated 06' champions Olby away from home. Olby boss..'We're still essentially a small club, so staying in the league is a bonus for us. I think, maybe, we'll erm get ourselves back on the training pitch early tomorrow and get the prep done for a tricky match at Pacifica at the weekend'...Yop Lane mauled Lunderbach 4-1 and could've scored another ten goals for all their posession...
Latest news: Rumour has it that Red Star have put in a secret bid for Colbreck league's Breekins no1 player...Tranmer, also from the Colbreck league, have suggested that they would also like to follow the Yop Lane lead and defect to the Sporting League 'should the opportunity arise.'

Sporting League: Game 7
Yop Lane continued their great start to the season with a 2-1 win over Red Star. Yop boss...'We've had a solid start, I'm gonna be honest here and state that we won't win the league! You can print that. I'm not interested in all the hype surrounding our move either. I must say that I'm gonna be havin' a few words with The Colbreck league board about some of the little whispers surrounding our so called defection. Well, I will say the Colbreck league has had it's day...I mean who's even heard of it outside our part of the world. Yep, it's dead in the water that one, I can tell ye.' Universo found the Athletican front line too much to handle as they went down by two goals to nil...Bayerns won at home to Chamber Athlete 3-0...Novia came back from a goal down to beat Tranquilayers 2-1...Novia boss, 'Why, that was close! It's always going to be difficult bagging the points at Tranquilayers pitch, I think we got a bit of luck out there today if the truth be told...'

Sporting Radio: 'He destroyed Delta 2nd half, didn't he?' 'Well, yeah, it has to be said that young lad ran rings around them...in fact i think that's his first hatrick in a competitive match...unbelievable stuff.' ( Delta 2 Yop lane 3)...Bayerns were way too strong for a Bombaya side that look weaker than last season. Bombaya boss..' I'm worried because the funds that we had a few years back simply aren't there, we've gotta get used to life on a shoestring nowadays...'

'We have belief, confidence, we're committed...' so said the Novia boss after a confident performance against Zindustrious running out 3-1 winners at the end of the ninety minutes...Tranquilayers seemed to end the Red Star title campaign early with a deserved 2-1 victory...'I suppose if rich people wanna throw money about, then why not?' observed the Liver Halvers boss as his side went down to a late winner scored by the leagues most expensive youngster based at Delta by two goals to one.
Sporting Radio...'I'm not sure he's gonna stay there for too long to be honest. He'll have lifted the atmosphere around the place, that's for sure...but nah man, he ain't gonna stay there for too long.'
