'Nemo Me Impune Lacessit'- RHF Research Blog

By: Juliet Fellows-Smith

518 Sauchiehall Street, an unobtrusive shopfront squeezed between two casinos on Glasgow's Sauciehall St, marks the entrance to Home Headquarters of the Royal Highland Fusiliers.

I wondered in off the street and have been allowed taken up residence in the library of the 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland. The provocative and profound material within the amazing archive forms the focus of my research and the subject for my new work.

A founder member of The Mutual, Glasgow (see agsamutual.org.uk) I live in Glasgow, making work, painting mostly in David Dale Studios in the East End.

Having graduated last summer, from Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art. I am greedy for more education, anxious to dodge banality by creeping into museum archives and libraries.

I plan for myself a wide, and absurdly specific re-education, within the closed communities of interesting and singular people that such places, so often, contain.

My new paintings will be made out of the material of this obscure little museum; that has proven such a pocket of profundity.
