finding my way back

By: Eddy Hardy

Trying to get back into the art world hasn't been an easy thing to do and i find my confidence is sometimes lacking. Hopefully this blog might help me on my journey to wherever i'm going.

# 2 [12 December 2009]

I heard back from the biscuit factory today..they didnt accept me work for exhibiting.  Still feel like i'm feeling my way back into this.  Just need to find more venues to show my work, going to investigate empty shops as a possibility.

# 1 [12 December 2009]

While at art college (and a few yrs after) my work was
considered by some to be fairly interesting and engaging (large scale paintings -nude self portraits and being a disabled male it got people talking about my work)

My work questioned ideas about beauty and body image but it seemed to restrict me in so far as it felt as though that was all i was allowing myself to make work about.

Difficulties in getting an accessible and affordable studio combined with me having to bring in some cash have meant that for a while i have been doing some work unrelated to my work as an artist...that is until very recently.

Not having a studio has meant i have been doing lots of drawing in sketchbooks using the local area and people i meet as inspiration.

I've recently set up a room as a studio so i can expand beyond the sketchbook and am also trying to establish myself as a portrait artist. Its a bit scary in some ways..trying to find the balance between working the way i do and producing something that could provide income without as i see it "selling out"...
