2pm onwards:

ART’S BIRTHDAY CAKE NON-BAKING afternoon led by Catherine Scriven. Come and help preparing the birthday cakes that do not need baking!

MAKING MAIL ART AND SENDING IT An open workshop where participants will make reproducible paper and drawing based items to send through postal and fax systems to friends, collaborators, artists and other art's birthday party-ists. The participants will also map the network and works made on walls of the space. Led by Nathan Walker.

CRAFT CORNER with Happycat. Happycat is a collective of likeminded people, Mel and Jade so far, who believe that art should be accessible and affordable to everyone. They say “We make zines and drawings and music and things ... lots of things. Happycat are joining the Art’s Birthday celebration because they like art and party hats.” They also think Filliou was probably a really nice man to be friends with....

RECREATIONAL CREATION Games collected by Art Bloc, York. Amongst others we will attempt to reconstruct 'Leeds: A New Card Game' following Filliou's instructions.

ART 'N' FLUX QUIZ featuring a special Birthday Bonus round by Contents May Vary, Manchester.

CQ GAME with Benedict Phillips. cq was developed as a strategic learning tool designed to highlight the complexities of urban planning and development. Luckily its also a three in one fun board game!

FIELD STUDY Artist book works and artifacts by Benedict Phillips in Studio no 5. Field Study is a collaborative initiative by Phillips and David Dellafiora in the spirit of Fluxus “created as a means of exchanging artworks, developing correspondences and establishing meetings that result in performances and group shows. At present Field Study have over 300 participants in Europe, USA, South America and Asia.”

9pm Remote synchronised candle blowing with our friends in Swansea!

5.30pm FLUXUS MUSIC Rob Wilsmore will play a couple of Fluxus Classics and some of his own Flux pieces.

8pm – 1pm DISCO POI-POI with Birthday Bar (donations welcome!)

Art’s Birthday 2010: Artists' Network Meeting

Dates: Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 January 2010.


Times: 16 January, 10am - late. 17 January, 9am - late.

Venue: Project Space, ESA Patrick Studios, St. Mary's Lane, Leeds. LS9 7EH.

Young Guys, Young Girls, Old Boys, Grandmothers, Ladies, Gentlemen, Artists, Families, Artist Families, Audiences and Participants wanted, needed and requested for Birthday extravaganza!

On 17 January 1963, artist Robert Filliou proclaimed Art was 1,000,000 years old, proposing ‘a public holiday to celebrate the presence of art in our lives’. So according to this, Art will be 1,000,047 years old on 17 January 2010!

To commemorate this event, you are invited to join ESA and ArtBloc, York's contemporary arts collective for activities and discussions over two days connecting West and North Yorkshire to international celebrations!

On the day please do not forget to:

Bring a present to Art and bring something to share! (An idea, something to show or some food and drink) And finally, whether you come for a minute or for the whole day, remember that on Art’s Birthday there are no observers, only participants!

Actions and Mail Art, Screenings and Fluxfeast, Talks, Chats, Food and Drinks, late night Party and Games Games Fluxus Games ! We invite everybody to meet and work alongside members of Art Bloc. There are no spectators, only participants!

Schedule:
8 - 10am: Breakfast
10 - 12 noon: Cake Non-Baking Event (come and help us making the cake and other food for Art's Birthday)
12 - 6pm: Parallel Recreational Creation (three sided table tennis and other games)
6pm - late: Disco Poi-Poi and Birthday Bar (bring your own music!)
All day: Tune in! Live streaming of Art's Birthday Radios from all over the world and 24 hour Video Screening.

This schedule may change as we are always open to more ideas! Remember, there are no observers, only participants!

The celebration is particularly relevant in Leeds where the presence, visits and influence of artists such as George Brecht, Robin Page and Robert Filliou in the 1970s played an important role in shaping artists current training and thinking about contemporary art.
