Given the increasing numbers of academically qualified artists, some educated even to PhD level (there now exist Doctors of Art), I have wondered, for a number of years, about the concept of an Art Surgery modelled around the idea of a Medical Doctor's Surgery. Two other artists and I (Dr. Jon Gilhooly and Huw Bartlett) are taking the idea forward. Open Art Surgery will form part of Brighton Fringe 2010.

Here's the promotional bit:
ARE YOUR PAINTINGS SICK? Do you own artworks which may require expert diagnosis? Bring them to the Open Art Surgery where qualified Doctors of Art will prescribe an-aesthetics, treatments and cures.
We specialise in ailments such as Poor Composition, Tonal Problems and Disharmonious Colour, and more complex issues such as Want of Meaning and ‘Era Infection’. Operations may be necessary...

What appear to be very polite computer generated responses from the Arts Council received today.
Asked Brighton's Jack Hughes to suggest some Logo designs for us. He's good at that.
Looked at space again today. Want to take some pics to create mock-ups to help progress.

We do not need to be educational in any way... I feel more convinced as time passes that we are right in our thinking that the 'artifacts' themselves are treated as the patients and that we might resist giving too much directly, in terms of advice, to the owners, creators or at least that we should be careful to remind ourseleves that we not need to be educational in any way.

I note that one of our patients is the creation of none other than the featured front-cover artist of this months issue of a-n magazine
