a blog following me submitting work to an open call for 'Tri-Fold: New Perspectives on Book Art' at the WAH Center in New York
I graduated from a fine art degree course at Wirral Metropolitan College in 2009 , continuing my practice through a fellowship course during 2009-2010 also at Wirral Metropolitan College. I work as an art technician in a high school three days a week. My art practice is based in printmaking, bookmaking and installation work.

I want to submit work into this book art exhibition. The category I'm entering it into is:
1) ARTIST BOOKS: An "artist’s book" or book art is a work of art, visual or conceptual in nature that refers to books or the idea of the book. It is not illustrations done for books. They are "objects (or sculpture) which have been inspired by, or heavily influenced by "the idea of the book."http://www.wahcenter.net/exhibits/2010/artandbook/
My work doesn't fit perfectly into it but I think it's close and worth a try.
I'm thinking of putting forward 'Forest: lungs of the World', 'Illegal Logging' and 'Pores for Thought'. I know I haven't got much of a chance but if you don't try you don't get.

I need to fill in an entry form and send it along with images of the work, a resume and an artist statement. I need to measure 'Pores for Thought' and decide on prices but the rest is done.
Before I send the email I'm going to find out how much it will cost to send them to America just in case.

I'm rubbish with prices, I never charge for my time, I know I should but nothing would ever sell. The materials have cost next to nothing and for 'Pores for Thought' they've cost nothing at all because they're left overs from 'Illegal Logging'. The gallery takes 25% and obviously posting them needs to be taken into consideration.
I just really want to get my work out there and think it doesn't matter if I'm making no money so long as I'm not losing any. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be making a living out of it but I haven't long graduated and have to be realistic. How great would it be to get my work seen in New York.

To send one log it's going to cost £65 but I can send a consignment costs £120 and I could send as much as I wanted. I hope if something does get picked it's not just one item.

I've been excepted with 'Forest: Lungs of the World' and 'Illegal Logging'. I'm so excited! I was emailed back on Saturday but was away in London so didn't know.
I needed to make some adjustments to my c.v because it was to long and I used cms for my measurements were I should have used inches. They want 5 books and 3 logs, so I'm going to get them packed up and sent later today.

I've been busy trying to sort out posting my work to New York. It's going to cost £120 at the post office. But online there are better prices, so I'm going for one of them. I need the measurements of the package as well as the weight but I think it's going to cost about £60, fingers crossed. Just been packaging it up.

The curator asked me to hold off sending the work until she got through all the other enteries so just waiting now. I hope my money can last until the time of posting though.

I've had an email today with the delivery dates and times that work can be excepted. It's quite a tight schedule so I hope I can get a timed delivery as well as a particular date. I only remember reading that it would take 5 days. I'll take a look later and see what I can do. Delivery of work is taken on 5th Octopber between 12-6 pm or on 6th October between 7-9pm.

I've sent the artwork this morning. I searched the internet until I got an ok price for delivery. It cost £43 going with Transglobal express who use DHL to deliver so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and it's insured for it's value and I have a tracking order so I can check up on it's progress. Yuko was good enough to let me send it to their annex office so that it didn't need to be a timed delivery in the end which is great because I couldn't find a way of doing it.
I'm really excited now it's gone, I'm really going to be in the show!
