Hall's practice is informed by a fanatical study of the natural world. He explores scientific phenomena using handmade devices constructed from materials such as coffee cups, waste pipes, cling film, and slide projectors. Referencing a long line of experiments by romantic scientists, Hall's assemblages are a far cry from modern instruments developed to provide infallible results, but they are no less suitable for perpetuating, controlling and inducing precise specific observations. Hall has recently embarked on a process of experimental research based in the hydrodynamics laboratory at UMIST as part of a residency project. His current work investigates globular vibration and the microscopic details of vibration-induced flow, droplet generation and standing wave formation. Employing the use of strange nomenclature, vague observations, speculations, assumptions, text, photos, drawings and diagrams, the conclusion is entwined with the process itself.
