NESTA Fellow Jo Fairfax’s practice is varied. He lights buildings, designs urban spaces, designs glass, makes digital films and works on collaborations. Stimulation is at the heart of what he does. He is equally at home working with other practitioners and in solitude. “Creating a giant laser triangle that hovers in the sky makes me smile. The triangle connects three water towers (Rothwell, Desborough and Beanield) and forms a giant symbol – a triangle – the alchemical symbol for water. Each water tower forms a corner of the laser triangle creating a conversation in form – the circle of the water drum with the triangle of light. The journey of light is evident and the journey of water is implied, another conversation. The moving, striated visual effect created as the laser crystal oscillation reveals itself as the divergent beam strikes the water drum over distance, implies a sense of journey. The water tower drum containing water held high, water ready to enter and exit, implies a journey. The two meet either side of the water drum.
