Visual art exhibitions and events with a platform for critical writing
Seven students from the University of Derby formed Disco artists' collective in 2000 in order to provide a possible theoretical and practical framework for contemporary art practices. As well as pursuing individual themes and concerns, Disco members aim to work with artists and arts organisations to curate and organise events and exhibitions that reflect the groups questioning ethos. With members based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Norwich, Derby and London, the group also collaborates on writing manifestos and critical texts that are published on its website. Current initiatives include hubbub, a month-long project held in Newcastle that includes an exhibition, events and residencies and features the work of sixteen national and international artists. hubbub is showing at Globe (Hub), North Shields until 7 November. Disco welcomes contact from artists wishing to collaborate with the group or attend discussion events.
