Portrait Prize
This inaugural prize worth £15,000 has been won by Scotland-based photographer Roben Antoniewicz. Second prize went to Victor Albrow, third to Alan Powdrill and the fourth to Nadav Kander. Judges were Sandy Nairne (Director National Portrait Gallery), writers and critics Amanda Hopkins and Ekow Eshun, artist Alison Jackson, photographer Mary McCartney Donald and Terence Pepper, Curator of Photographs National Portrait Gallery. The Deloitte Award worth £5,000 and given to the best portrait taken by a photographer twenty-five or under went to nineteen-year-old David Yeo. An exhibition of selected work from the competition is on show at the National Portrait Gallery until 15 February. Jerwood Photography Awards Prize The five winners of this recently announced were Veronica Bailey, Polly Braden, Edgar Martens, Danny Treacy and Naglaa Walker. They were selected from the 664 portfolios of photographs submitted by recent UK graduates. Each winner receives £2,000 and publication of their work in the December 2003 issue of Portfolio: Contemporary Photography in Britain.
