Visual art exhibitions and events with a platform for critical writing
Unique sites along Nottinghams River Trent are a focus of a series of site-specific performances, installations and artworks.
Entitled Hinterland, the projects examines the local landscape with the artists presenting work along the riverbank, projected onto iconic buildings and in the water itself. On 29 September, Samson Kambalu attempted to drain the entire river into 500ml water bottles in his new performance installation; Jonathan Willett launched an ice sculpture in the form of an arrow onto the water near Trent Bridge and Michael Pinchbeck took people on a virtual journey in his car in a bespoke installation under Lady Bay Bridge. On 30 September, hancock & kelly live presented Beyond the Pale, a performance with fifteen people under Clifton Bridge where found material, physical interaction and striking projections combined beneath the roaring traffic. On 1 October, local historian and artist Chris Matthews will set out to uncover a geographical hinterland, criss-crossed by Anglo-Saxon boundaries and will guide people across a vista of Victorian leisure between Wilford and Colwick in a History Walk.
