Visual art exhibitions and events with a platform for critical writing
A UK-wide scheme that enables artists and makers to work alongside students in universities and colleges for mutual benefit is launching a digital portfolio of stories from artists whove taken part in these mini residencies.
Founded in 1999, AA2A has provided placements for some 800 artists and makers in its first ten years. To celebrate this achievement, a selected digital publication of twenty artists' stories has been published, which tells the stories of twenty artists who have benefited from these 'mini residencies'. Its title 'Time and Space' draws on a comment from one story: "I think the value of my time spent on the AA2A scheme, was its straightforward gift of time and space, with no particular strings attached". The online publication represents the scheme's impact on a great variety of artists with different ages, experiences, practices and backgrounds. Each could submit three images and a text that reflected both on their AA2A experience and on what they'd been doing since. There are many accolades for the scheme and institutions that host placements. One artist tells us how having seen AA2A advertised in a-n Magazine, he was encouraged to apply for a placement that he believes has changed his life.
