Visual art exhibitions and events with a platform for critical writing
My work involves attempting to break world records and seeks to find a place for non-theatrical actions within a performative space. 'Expo', one of the UK's leading live art showcases for emerging artists, provided an excellent opportunity for me to produce a new performance.By presenting these events in galleries I am looking at our perceptions of success and our desire to be recognised as achievers. Getting there first, being the fastest and lasting the longest are some of the many ways in which people strive to be noticed. My performances examine endurance, competition and the ways in which we attempt to set ourselves apart from the crowd. They raise questions about our aspiration to achieve and the lengths to which we will go to be remembered.Being a world record holder offers the opportunity to prove that you are individual, unique, an achiever, somebody special. You are not subsumed into a mass of producers or consumers and as long as your feat is not matched by any other you will be credited in history.My intention is to engage my audiences as witnesses and participants, not as passive spectators and I frame the invitation to each piece as an opportunity to witness.These...
