Visual art exhibitions and events with a platform for critical writing
Last year Simon Keenleyside, a Royal College of Art graduate, won the first BOC Emerging Artist Award. Organised by the agency Art for Offices, the award is worth a total of £20,000 and will be offered annually to a UK-based artist working in 2D. Applicants must be under thirty years of age and satisfy one of the following criteria: to be working on or have completed an MA to have completed a BA and have been working as a professional artist for two years; or be able to demonstrate commitment to an artistic career and at least five years working experience. The award is spilt into three parts: £10,000 towards studio rental and materials; a travel grant of £5,000; and £5,000 towards an exhibition and promotion. BOC also chooses one item of work undertaken by the artist during the award year to add to its collection. This year Keenleyside has travelled to Berlin, Granada and New York, where he has been making preparatory studies for a forthcoming show in a London gallery.
