Now in its thirteenth year, the Mostyn Open has become one of the most prominent open exhibitions in the UK. This year forty-five works by thirty artists were selected from almost five hundred applicants. Guest selectors Laura Ford, David Thorp and Mostyn director Martin Barlow chose Charlotte Ginsborg to win the £6000 prize. Her video declares the nobility of the blue-collar worker by staging a 'coming to arms' of a shop assistant who defiantly wields a spade above her head to a Nina Simone soundtrack. Also selected was Andrew Black, whose commentary on funding procedures and corporate architectural planning culminates in an ambitious proposal for the summit of Mount Snowdon.
