Welsh Mining Memorial [ 13 April 2012 ]
The Aber Valley Heritage Group are in the process of bidding for funding for a Mining Memorial that will be based on the site of the Universal Colliery in Senghenydd, home of the largest ever coal mining disaster in the United Kingdom. An artist is required for the design of a memorial sculpture that will sit within a newly created memorial garden in order to celebrate those who lost their lives within the Welsh Coal Mining Industry. This will tie in with the commemoration of the forthcoming centenary of the Universal disaster in October 2013. The work required shall be a free standing piece and should consist of a larger than lifesize figurative sculpture cast in bronze or other suitable material, to be stood on a plinth made from local stone. Caerphilly CBC Public Artwork [ 27 August 2010 ]
The council wishes to appoint an artist to develop and install a variety of imaginative pieces of public artwork within the town centre. The artist will be expected to work with the local community in order to develop proposals. A number of opportunities exist for the introduction of Public Artwork within the town including street furniture, entrance floorscapes, stone cut lettering in the floorscapes developed through a community literature project, a viewpoint sculpture and an architectural glass project. The artist will also be expected to work with the Design Team set up to deliver the Bargoed Town Centre Regeneration Project to ensure art forms are fully integrated into the public realm. Blackwood Gateway Wall Commission [ 27 November 2009 ]
The Council has secured funding from the Arts Council of Wales, for a piece of artwork to sit upon a large concrete retaining wall within the town centre. The artwork will be an integral part of a wider town arts strategy, which has already seen the implementation of a number of unique and contemporary sculptures. A copy of the Arts Strategy can be provided on request. The commission is for a strong imaginative, site-specific artwork, which will act as a 'gateway feature' thus enhancing the 'corridor' from the high street up to the newly developed bus station. Groesfaen Community Garden Artwork Commission [ 31 October 2008 ]
Caerphilly County Borough Council has secured funding from the Heads of the Valleys Artwork Programme for a piece or series of public artworks to sit within a proposed community garden in the north of the borough. The chosen artist will be required to design and implement a piece or pieces of imaginative artwork as an integral part of this regeneration project, and will also be required to work with the local community in order to develop proposals that reflect the site and the aspirations of the local community.
