Eastside Projects opened in 2008 and has been functioning as a hub and incubator for new ideas and models of art practice. The initiative aims to support the creative infrastructure and the continued development of the visual arts community in the West Midlands. ESP runs an Associates Programme which acts as a springboard for recent graduates as they develop careers within the visual arts and creative industries more generally. The objective is to support and compliment existing strategies and develop new ones in response to the Associates's needs and ambition.

Every year Eastside Projects employs three gallery assistants who each work with us for twelve months. We are a small team so our assistants work closely with the Gallery Directors and ESP Programmer and make a huge contribution to all aspects of our exhibition and events programme. Each role has a different focus, which means they enable particular skills and experience to be gained. The selected graduates will receive one year’s free membership to Eastside Projects’ associates scheme Extra Special People (ESP). ESP supports the development of work, ideas, connections and careers through a programme of events, opportunities and projects. Members become active contributors to a network of over a hundred practitioners and benefit from Eastside Projects’ experience of the contemporary art world and regional, national and international contacts. As ESP supports the development of artists, curators and art writers this opportunity is not only for those who hope to become studio practitioners but for graduates who aspire to many different careers within contemporary art. Series of short, practical residencies at the Artists’ Studio at The New Art Gallery Walsall. Nine artists will occupy the space in groups of three during Spring 2012. Group Occupation will provide a mutually supportive context in which to develop new work. Eastside projects is an artist-led public gallery which commissions and presents experimental contemporary art practices and exhibitions. The role of Gallery Assistant requires contribution to all aspects of Eastside Projects’ work and may include invigilation, interacting with visitors, exhibition production and installation, gallery maintenance and events management and delivery.
