WHO: applicants meeting the AHRC's student eligibility criteria who are completing, or have already completed a first degree in fine art (minimum upper-second-class Honours degree)

WHAT: AHRC Professional Preparation Master's Studentship in Fine Art

WHEN: from September 2011

PAYMENTS: full award covers fees and an annual, tax free stipend of up to £8,845 (2011/12 rates). A partial award covers fees only. To see if you would be eligible for a full or partial award, see the AHRC's student eligibility criteria.

DETAILS: to undertake an MFA in Fine Art (as an MFA student looking to develop your career as a practising artist) at Newcastle University - for 2011 entry the university expects to have one studentship. This scheme supports students undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma or Master's course that focuses on developing high level skills and competencies for professional practice. If you are a part time student, support is pro rata, but please note, the MFA at Newcastle does not have a part-time route. Applicants will be looking to undertake a studio-based Master's degree as preparation for future professional practice as an artist. In exceptional circumstances, a qualification in another subject will be considered, but only when the applicant can demonstrate equivalent additional and relevant experience. Ideally, applicants should be able to demonstrate commitment to their chosen career, through engagement with and development of their studio practice beyond their first degree. This could be in the form of exhibitions, curating or other relevant professional (paid or unpaid) experience. Please note that if you require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK, you will not be eligible for this funding.
