I have only worn RED WHITE and BLUE for 9 months....the national colours
Its a performance work aimed at prevoking conversations about the country in which I live.
I am not a patriotic soul, but I do love to moan and laugh like my fellow countrymen (and women)
The people are what make our country great!!!

Gavin J R, 'God? Save the Queen?', Mixed media, 2009-10. Photo: Gavin J R. The church and the monarchy....in Britains past the two major beliefs and trust of the British people. Now these two areas have become less important as Britain has undergone a cultural revolution, without perhaps even realising it! Representing the declining importance of the Church and the Monarchy in Britain. Questions also Political power and the current economy in Britain. The bricks suggest a fragile dis-balance, with the coins being housed between sheets of glass.

The church and the monarchy seem to have become much less important in recent years, changes in cultures and politics have moved Britain into its modern age. Are these two things still important today? Gavin J R 2010

My artistic practice explores a range of themes closely related to identity: personal, social and national.
In a recent body of work I have been exploring the complexities and defining qualities of people living in Britain. You may call it a bewildering attempt to find out what being British is all about.
All my work seems to have a continual strand of self-performance, sometimes more explicitly then others. From the obvious like my obsessive wearing of the national colours - red white and blue to the processes evolved with pimpin’ my ride (Rover 100), painting the 2000 2p coins (God? save the Queen?, 2009/10) to interviewing the general public in my installation works.
I feel that my fresh young approach to my art, particularly using new medias enables me to communicate with today’s new tech-savvy generations, extending to, from and beyond the ‘white cube space’ into peoples lives - via live, online and participatory based media.
Alongside my fine art practice/studies I have also been involved with a number of community arts projects ranging from assisting break-dancing sessions to running workshops on the creative industries.
