Recent use of video has allowed me to create spectacles from visually dissimilar and often mundane materials. I am consistently interested in reframing perception as I attempt to create meaning in the simplest of objects. Deception and illusion have been pivotal in the evolution of my practice as I toy with what one sees and what one knows.  Undertones of ecological threat are inherent in my works but the references are disguised as I use visual trickery to insinuate a distant link to the other.

Michael Bold

Something can become nothing and nothing can become something.

Diverse interests in consumerism, deception, functionality, sci-fi, ecological threat and the transformation of everyday objects inform my practice. They have asserted themselves through various guises such as sculpture, installation and video projection. My previous use of advertising banners and shop displays within the gallery space challenged the parameters that make consumerism the strongest ideology of our time. This concern has recently been compounded with the exploration of the most used consumable amongst us, energy.
