This can be found in the subject matter and methods used, as well as in knowing (or sometimes not knowing) what you are doing, or where you are going.    What is the intense belief or energy needed to make you get out of bed each day, often to little attention or small reward? Could it be that despite all of life’s trials and tribulations, it could be, whisper it, ‘fun’… that you actually enjoy it, like a monkey with a miniature cymbal.... The unexpected associations and fortuitous relations that occur when these seemingly disconnected works are presented together create a garden of playfulness and provocative connections. The contemplative and the frivolous converge, the point where the two meet creating an atmosphere of suspense; a plot of creativity ripe with intrigue and amusement. The artists will present their ongoing practice of object-based work, video installations, paintings and photography alongside newly commissioned works for this exhibition. Presenting a world where the seemingly trivial can be proven to produce powerful and surprisingly sublime effects.   easy does it at Aid & Abet follows the first exhibition at David Dale Gallery & Studios in February 2013. Alison Wilding, Kate Davis, Annie O’Donnell, Phil Illingworth, Deb Covell, Tony Charles, Boa Swindler, Chiara Williams. Platform A Gallery, Middlesbrough. Friday 17 May – 20 June 2013. Preview 6 – 9pm Thur 16 May. WW and Platform A are pleased to present North South Divine, an exhibition of works by eight artists across two cities situated at the North and South of the country. The exhibition, organised in partnership between the two galleries, opened in London at WW Gallery and has toured to Middlesbrough’s Platform A Gallery. North South Divine makes obvious reference to the age old traditional geographical and social tensions between both ends of the country. This opposition is brought into focus by the locations of the two collaborating venues: WW gallery is situated in Hatton Garden, the diamond district of London, home of the purveyors of expensive decorative finery. In contrast, Platform A exists within a North Eastern railway station deep in the heartland of heavy industry.  Strength meets sensitivity, serious creative practice meets humour. Ultimately, the show expresses the very simple beauty of shared belief, the unity of ideas and the pleasure of real conversation.... Canavan’s practice is rooted in action based performance and spans live work, documentations of its products and traces and the representation of these in other forms. She questions notions of beauty, pain and expectation, transforming brutal acts into tender and generous anecdotes of allegiance. By acknowledging and resisting the sacred and divine she installs layers of symbol through the modification and manipulation of the flesh, and pursues rituals that transcend the body.... The vast aluminum motifs mould to the shapes of the Victorian brick, their reflective surface contrasting with the dark undertones of the heritage architecture. As onlookers wander through the site, they enter a three-dimensional painting, which playfully engages with the reality of the urban fabric. From a single viewpoint, accessible from the top of an elevated platform, the geometries of 'Across the Buildings' unify into one continuous pattern. Once liberated from the point of perspective, these fragments appear in unexpected and ever-changing configurations existing as independent and yet connected entities. This is the third artwork to be revealed as part of RELAY, the dedicated art programme at King’s Cross curated by Michael Pinsky and Stéphanie Delcroix. From 16 May until 18 October. RELAY is funded by the King's Cross Central Limited Partnership and has received the support of Eurostar, the Universith of East London, Arts Council England and the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom. ...
