Ergin Cavusoglu: Crystal and Flame

Crystal and Flame is a video installation by the Bulgarian artist Ergin Cavusoglu. It comprises three sets of imagery:  the flame grill at a Turkish café; a gem-cutter handling precious stones; and a group of actors rehearsing in a theatre space. Continuing a long line of videos by the artist in which intimate rituals or idiosyncratic actions are prefigured by motifs from well-known literary sources,  and consists of a series of scenes shot in the locality of East London.

We are offering a bursary of £70 to enable a writer to visit and review this show at Peer gallery in London. If you would like to be considered send a few words (300 words max) about your interest in this project to interface@a-n.co.uk by Monday 20 September.

Further information
Crystal and Flame
is commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella, as part of ‘Free to Air’, an ongoing project, which looks each year at the four fundamental freedoms: freedom of expression, freedom from want, freedom of religion and freedom from fear. Alongside Cavusoglu’s commission, realised and presented in partnership with Peer, the theme of ‘freedom from want’ will be reflected in a programme of associated screenings and artists’ talks.
