Pools in their shadows
Amongst the interactive installation in Pools in their Shadows the audience can view over 1,000 of Lathwood’s sap sculptures in the form of miniature houses. These houses vary in colour, design and origin. Lathwood has been collecting sap from varied locations for the last year, including Valenciennes in France, New York, Plitvice in Croatia, Bristol and Toronto to name but a few. It is integral to her practice that no trees are hurt during this process and she enjoys the hunt for such a unique material. A percentage of the exhibition’s profits will be donated to Trees for Cities, which is a charitable organization that raises awareness of the importance of trees whilst actively promoting the replanting of trees, the teaching of arboriculture and the running of workshops. Jo Lathwood’s work revolves around the social development of culture and explores the differences of how we live today compared to how we lived in the past.
