The Lowry Centre Ltd, Pier 8, Salford Quays, SALFORD, M50 3AZ
The Lowry is an architectural flagship opened on 28th April 2000, bringing together a wide variety of performing and visual arts under one roof. The gallery spaces show the works of LS Lowry alongside an exhibition programme of modern and contemporary art of diversity and appeal. There are up to 16 exhibitions per year, each generally lasts for 3 months, with occasional shorter projects and events. The Lowry also houses two main theatres and studio space for presenting drama, opera, ballet, dance, musicals, children's shows, popular music, jazz, folk and comedy.
In 2003 there was Thermo 03, the first selling show at the Lowry, and a veritable free-for-all with what seemed like every artist in Manchester (apart from those more discerning) in it. It made no sense and I doubt if anyone made any Read on…
