Transition, an artist-run space founded in 2002 in Hackney, London by Cathy Lomax, aims to foster new talent in contemporary art by providing a space to show work by emerging and more established artists. Since its opening, Transition has shown work by over 200 different artists and has become an established platform for contemporary art. The space has an open submission policy for artists and curators and is particularly interested in cross-disciplinary and diverse practices. The gallery also facilitates talks, workshops and other participatory events. Transition Editions, the gallery's publishing imprint, produces books to accompany shows and publishes three magazines, Garageland, Arty and The Critical Friend.
