21st Century Watercolour 2008-07-30
Organised by the Royal Watercolour Society, this annual open competition is a celebration of watercolour as a vibrant medium for the 21st century. It identifies and supports artists of any age and is not prescriptive about size or subject matter. All works produced in water-based mediums, watercolour, acrylic and gouache are eligible.
The aim of the competition is to encourage innovation in the use of water-based media on paper and to stimulate fresh approaches to what are considered to be watercolour’s traditional strengths. Successful submissions are exhibited at Bankside Gallery, London and successful applicants are invited to apply for election to the Royal Watercolour Society. This year's RWS Award went to Brian Woods, further prizewinners including David Lauder, John Bryce, Julie Collins, Derek Chambers, Deborah Walker and Philip Rundall. In addition, Denis Ryan's entry has led to his election as Associate Member of the Royal Watercolour Society.First published: a-n.co.uk July 2008
