Exeter Contemporary Open exhibition
Award-winners revealed at successful opening night of 4th Exeter Contemporary Open exhibition (eco)
Hundreds of business people, arts professionals, arts enthusiasts and journalists from all over the region flocked to Exeter Phoenix to attend the opening of the fourth international Exeter Contemporary Open exhibition at the venue last night.
Sponsored by members of the regional arts & business community, the following prizes were awarded to selected eco finalists during a special ceremony as part of the launch of the prestigious national exhibition:
Haines Watts & Exeter Phoenix £1000 award of for overall best artwork: CHARLIE TWEED (London)
St Austell Brewery £500 award for best South West artist: SUZANNE MOONEY (BRISTOL)
DNA Advertising. £500 award for best new media artist: HAYLEY LOCK (SUFFOLK)
Off The Hook Clothing. £150 public choice award: To be revealed on Thursday 22nd October
Istormmodern exhibition award: ANGELA LIZON (BRISTOL)
Proof Magazine editorial award:: MAT CHIVERS (DEVON)
Now in its 4th year, with an ever-increasing number of artist applications and business sponsors, eco has firmly established itself as one of the most exciting and innovative open exhibitions in the country for emerging and mid-career artists, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
The eco selection panel, which this year shortlisted sixteen artists for the exhibition from over 300 applications from all over the world, consists of several prominent figures from the South West region’s arts scene.
The work of all sixteen selected artists can be seen at the Exeter Phoenix galleries until 4th Nov 2009.
