S1 Artspace is an artist-led organisation providing studio space for over twenty Sheffield based artists, as well as a project space, which presents an annual programme of contemporary exhibitions, screenings and events. By supporting and enabling artists to develop new ideas and projects, S1 Artspace continues to develop its commitment to new work.

Art Sheffield are seeking applications from curators and artists to participate in a four day research visit to Manifesta 9, led by the Art Sheffield 2013 Festival Team. Participants in the research visit will subsequently develop a proposal for Art Sheffield 13. Manifesta 9 takes place at the impressive site of the former Waterschei mine in Genk, Belgium. For the first time in the history of Manifesta, the biennial will combine an international selection of contemporary art with an impressive collection of historical works displaying the rich mining heritage. The Deep of the Modern, curated by Curator Cuauhtemoc Medina will be presented as a triptych. The first section will display new work, created in response to the regional context and linking this with global issues. The art historical section provides an overview of 19th and 20th century works of art which take as their subject the impact of the coal industry. S1 Artspace & Art Sheffield are currently seeking exhibition and research interns to work alongside the programming team at S1 Artspace. We are looking for people to contribute to the research and development of the future programme at S1 Artspace and the next Art Sheffield Festival planned for 2013. To contribute to the development of and delivery of S1’s Marketing & Audience Development Strategy, in order to develop audiences and to raise the profile of the organisation nationally and internationally. Principle purpose is to support the Artistic Director on the delivery and execution of all exhibitions; including planning & logistics, liaising with artists, shipping, insurance, suppliers and leading all exhibition installs and de-stalls. To support the Studios Coordinator on the day-to-day maintenance of the building and its facilities. S1 Artspace currently seeks an intern to work alongside the programming team at S1. We are looking for somebody to contribute to the development and administration of the current and forth-coming programme, assist with press and marketing activities, help with exhibition installations and contribute to general office administration. Applicants will need to have good interpersonal and organisational skills, proficiency using Mac computers (Word, Excel, Entourage), a practical and independent approach - knowledge of contemporary art is desirable. You will receive one-on-one training and will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the running of a contemporary project space and studio complex. This is a voluntary position and therefore unpaid however travel costs will be covered, all applicants must be based in the Sheffield area. The successful candidates will be available for one day per week 12 - 6pm, days are flexible but would need to be between Wednesday - Friday.
