Vane is an agency based in Newcastle upon Tyne that promotes contemporary visual arts practice through supporting artists within Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding region and building the necessary networks to export their work, as well as importing the best contemporary practice from outside the region. Established in 1997, Vane has worked with over 500 artists. Having presented one-off projects and events in temporary or existing venues, in 2005 Vane opened its own permanent gallery space in Newcastle upon Tyne city centre in which to present a continuous exhibition programme as well as acting as a base from which to develop touring exhibitions and promote the sale of artists' work.

Vane has been established for 13 years in Newcastle upon Tyne. Since moving to its current gallery premises in 2005 Vane has focused on representing the work of a number of artists, both from across the UK and internationally, as well as participating in a number of international art fairs. Vane is recognised as a key driver in the development of a regional market for work of critical weight by contemporary artists. We are now at a point in our development where we are looking for some additional expertise to place the work of our artists within established and emerging collections.

Required Experience

It is anticipated that you will:
Have a passion for art and a good understanding of the contemporary art world
Be self motivated and able to work on your own initiative as well as in close co-operation with the Creative Director of Vane
Be an experienced art world professional with good existing contacts
Have exemplary customer relationship management skills
Have knowledge of sales contracts and invoice procurement relating to art sales

Additional information

The post is to be worked remotely. The successful applicant will be expected to use their own premises, telephone, computer and other equipment and materials as necessary. However, he/she will be expected to visit Vane’s Newcastle gallery for occasional reporting and for promotional events.
