Injection, a Crafts Council business development scheme, will support established, ambitious craft practices to develop equally strong business acumen and encourage further economic growth within the sector. Through a tailored programme of support, guidance, networking and mentoring participants will develop the skills and confidence to take forward their ideas and approach funders and investors. Injection is a selected scheme. Selection will be based on the excellence and ambition of business proposals and the potential demonstrated by the idea and long-term impact it may have on the applicant’s practice. COLLECTIVE is the Crafts Council’s CPD programme for makers providing support at all points in their career.
Responsible for developing and implementing a number of new programme strands of work within COLLECTIVE ensuring these are delivered at the highest level.
This is an exciting but also demanding and challenging role, operating in a continuously changing economic landscape. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly collaborative individual with experience in maintaining constructive relationships within the Creative Industries through successful and practical implementation of CPD projects and programmes.

The Project Space is unique opportunity to showcase new works, launches and special collaborations within the premium environment of the COLLECT fair. The Project Space is an alternative and flexible exhibiting space open to creative proposals from individuals, collaborations and groups. Open submission short film competition. The Crafts Council is asking people to submit original short films between 10 and 120 seconds long that focus on any aspect of the making process - from a demonstration of making an object or showing the use of equipment, tools and machinery to a more conceptual film on what making means to people. The Crafts Council welcomes applications to exhibit in Lux Craft; a new show within Origin, enabled through the support of Nokia, specifically conceived and designed to showcase lighting installations by the world's finest craft makers. Hothouse is a national scheme profiling and supporting up to 40 of the most promising new makers each year. The scheme is a programme of group sessions on developing business skills, market knowledge and creativity; a series of networking events which bring together all 2011 cohorts; peer buddy support and 1:1 sessions with a mentor from the sector. The scheme runs over a six month period. Origin: The Contemporary Craft Fair returns to the London Design Festival in 2011. It brings together makers in all disciplines, working at all scales, with key buyers, commissioners and media in a renewed Origin pavilion at Spitalfields Market. Sustainability in Craft Practice event, 27 January 2011, The National Glass Centre, Sunderland in partnership with the Crafts Council - a panel of makers and craft professionals, chaired by Izzy McDonald-Booth, Craft and Design Curator and Buyer at the National Glass Centre, will explore key questions around sustainability in craft making including craft practice in the face of rising energy and material costs and growing environmental concerns - with specific reference to glass and ceramics; upcycling as a way of instilling new life and value into existing or disposable objects and materials, and the ethics of producing more objects in an already saturated world.
